1.8 crank wear
I currently working a 1.6 to 1.8 swap, I tore down the 1.8 today to install forged rods and pistons and the crank kind of has me worried about using it again. What do you guys think of the wear? Just curious of your thoughts before I buy another crank.

At a minimum, have the crank polished by a machine shop. Buy a rifle cleaning kit and clean the oil passages of debris before reinstalling.
I'd pull off a cam bearing cap and look for wear up there as well. |
can you 'feel' the markings if you scrape a fingernail across them?
as an apprentace I was taught to use this as you can 'feel' down to about 0.003" with a nail:cool: also, whats the oilpump like? Rich. |

Machine shop will be able to tell you if it is able to be polished.

As Sixshooter mentioned, check cams, journals and caps. They score before the crank does generally. Harder to fix. Keegan has repaired a few heads for us that got scored. So its possible. Scored cams get tossed, not repaired.
