1.8 stock piston deck clearance?

I'm doing a top secret build and need to know if anyone currently has a short block, dial gauge, and stand they can measure this for me. I know it will vary slightly from block to block but any accurate measurement will suffice for my research.

I would measure it myself, but unfortunately the motor I have was disassembled when I picked it up. Admittedly, this was at my own request for transportation purposes.

Someone, PLEASE, do it for the children

doesn't the haynes manual have this kind of measurement in it? I know it sounds weird, but my dad and I used that manual when we rebuilt our 1.6 and it had a shit ton of specs in it.

I just referred to the Mazda workshop manual I have, and they don't list it in there. Sorry.

neogenesis2004 09-12-2008 11:22 AM

I have the manual, I know its not in there. That is why I asked if anyone has a shortblock that they can measure.

Machismo 09-12-2008 11:34 AM

Minimum should be 221.5 millimeters as per the Miata Performance Handbook.

neogenesis2004 09-12-2008 01:12 PM

I need piston to deck clearance... Which will be 1mm or less most likely

It will need to be measure by someone. THere is no spec listed in the manuals.

Reading comprehension people...please...

RotorNutFD3S 09-12-2008 01:21 PM

Well, you didn't mention that you had the manual or that you had attempted to look it up at all. So there's no way to comprehend that. Excuse the hell out of anyone trying to help you out.

neogenesis2004 09-12-2008 01:24 PM

Sorry if it came off like that...apparently people around here lack a sense of humor.

KPLAFIN 09-12-2008 01:26 PM

Make you a deal....you can drive down here to charlottesville and take my motor apart to measure it for yourself if you build it while you're here....with your "top secret" parts.

is the height the same on the 01 motor? at least on the flat section perimeter?

Machismo 09-12-2008 01:38 PM

Sorry for the confusion.....
I will call Gary at TDR to see what he might can find.

Well since it is a 99 motor that I'm building, that would be ideal actually. If you could do this I would really appreciate it!
