Hello, I'm in the process of finishing up my 1990 Mazda Miata lfx/mv5 swap. I had purchased a standalone harness from cbm since it doesn't seem to be available anywhere else. Their harness didn't come with any transmission wiring. When I called them, they said it should work on my car without any issues(I told them I'll be using vats deleted e39 manual car ecu). However when I was browsing through other member's builds on here everyone seems to wire the VSS.
Do I need to do add any wiring to my transmission or can I get away with just the engine harness?
Starter/clutch interlock I have wired myself using miata's wiring. I'm planning on using a standalone gauges/gps speedo.
Thank you for your help.
I'm fairly certain you need the VSS hooked up. If memory serves the car won't rev past 4000K or something like that if it's a manual and doesn't have VSS. I believe you can get away without the temp sensor hooked up (again, from memory) the MV7 didn't have a temp sensor is why I say that. I used the stock wiring harness and modified it, so I already had those sensors all wired up to the ecu. I did not wire up the reverse lights. I also didn't wire up the clutch interlock (the clutch interlock is not part of the engine harness/transmission harness, since it's under the dash). I can tell you for a fact that you don't need either of those.
Good Luck on your build, sounds like your getting close!
I'm looking at a few threads here and can't quite wrap my head around it. I have the connectors but not the wiring harness that came with the transmission.
For VSS I will wire 12v through a fuse to pin 3 of the VSS connector as per this https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr.../#&gid=1&pid=2
What do I do with the other 2 pins of the VSS connector? https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...-build-108454/
I see pin 8 on the black connector may be it but I'm not sure.
Thank you for your help.
Sorry the picture is grainy, best I could do. Looks like...Pin 3, Pink wire, on a 7.5 amp fuse. Pin 1, Brown / White goes to ECU (looks like Pin 8), and Pin 2, Black White goes to ground.
