Checked for 12v with key on at the coils? It's fed by the engine fuse in the drivers footwell.

The engine was just reinstalled correct? Have you verified no grounds were left loose? No pinched/cut wires during installation?

Just outta curiosity, was there a crank trigger plate on that crank pulley ? Is that the same engine that was originally in the car ? i seen cases were they swap the engine and it would never start due the teeth being in a different position on that pulley or being the wrong plate in general

The OP in this thread has a '97.

While '95.5 - '97 Miatas were equipped with a crank trigger plate, it was only used for OBD-II misfire detection, not for actually running the engine. A '97 Miata will start and run just fine with the crankplate and sensor removed, it will simply throw a MIL.

The crankwheel became the primary fuel & ignition trigger in the 1999 model year, when the CAS on the back of the head was removed and a discrete cam sensor was added to the front of the valve cover.

Everyone needs to reread the op's original post. The car started and ran for a bit.

I pulled the trigger wheel while i was resetting the timing.

Still have not figured out the issue. I went through and checked all fuses and grounds again, just in case.

What are the chances that it could be the ECU that failed? The car does not throw a code at all and has not since the time it ran then stopped.

So I finally got the car to start a month and a half ago and forgot to update this thread.

Here is what happened between March and July:

NOTHING! Lol. I have had little to no time to work on the car as I have been very busy with work and life in general. The car had been on jack stands in the garage as I attempted to diagnose the issue and also throw parts at the car in what little spare time that I had.

I ended up throwing in the towel and having the car towed to a nearby shop to have them diagnose the car. After having the car for a day they called to inform me that the car had very little fuel pressure! Apparently the fuel pump still ran (as stated earlier in this thread) but it was not outputting enough fuel to allow the car to start. I felt relieved and frustrated all at the same time. The car ran after the shop replaced the fuel pump, filter and the relay.

I then got the car home and set the timing via the cam position sensor and adjusted the fast idle screw to get it to idle at the appropriate RPM.

I am not sure why all of my previous attempts at verifying spark or ignition did not yield any results (IE: spark tester, non triggering timing light, non arcing spark plugs) because when I jumped the diag box and hooked up the timing light I was able to set the timing with no issues at all.

The car now runs well and I am in the process of breaking her in before taking her out on the track again with her rebuilt motor.

I would like to thank all who contributed to this thread to help me figure out what the hell was wrong with my car. I figured I would write this to close the open ended mystery no start issue and hopefully help out anyone who may have a similar issue with their car.

Thanks again MTnet!
