3" Exhaust

In preparation for my new built engine, I want to go from my 2-1/2" Flyin Miata Exhaust to. 3" . Currently running 12 # of boost and will probably bump a little higher with new motor. A 3" setup from Flyin Miata is a possibility, but I was wondering if there are other possibilities. This is for a street car and I would prefer to keep a catalytic converter on it, albeit a high flow one.

Suggestions?

Paul

Have a good local exhaust shop build you one. We just built one for a customer car in our shop that has a cat, 3 inch all the way back.

What Magnaflow is that? Is it the 12579/14579?

Also, what was your approximate cost in aluminized steel?

Muffler is 12579. Cost is going to be dependent on what labor rates are in your locale. This exhaust is Stainless, and will come out to be more than FM's 3" system all said and done. That being said, going custom allowed me to select the muffler I preferred, and make small changes that will be appreciated in the long run like V-Bands for connecting everything and routing the exhaust farther from the transmission to reduce heat transfer and have enough room for a BMW transmission swap in the future. Not to mention support the local motorsports economy.

So is it quiet :)

FM's 3" downpipe and exhaust fit and flow very well. All the parts come in a box for easy DIY installation.

I assumed that the FM part would be good. I was just looking for alternatives to $1200. The thing about the FM system is that I know how it will sound. I really like a mellow exhaust. I'll talk to some local fabricators to hear some prices and ideas.

Kraken makes or used to make full hotsides+exhaust for a reasonable price
Hes not super clear if he still does exhausts or just downpipes as of late though

Drive up to Charleston and I could probably make you something.

I've also noticed this. The work looks nice and his social media stuff has shown a number of photos of exhausts recently. In one thread it'll seem like he doesn't have the machining to do 3", then another he'll say it's on the way next week. You can try reaching out through Facebook.

Custom MK equivalent sounds really cool too.

here is a pic of my 3" exhaust, its ugly and cheaply welded, but works great.

we'er in florida, no need to overspend on stainless, no rust here. also no need for a cat. but thats up to you.

just look at the piping/bends i have, and buy the same at a supplier and take with a pic of my exhaust to any muffler shop.

shouldn't be too pricey to weld up.

Kraken said if I sent my full hotside set up, (FM2) that he could make a full 3" exhaust from the cast elbow backwards with as much silencing as I wanted. I didn't want to go through the hassle and risk of de-installing and shipping though.

IME, the FM 3" exhaust on my car is quite a bit quieter than the other 3" systems I've heard.

and THAT is very much a factor. My concerns about going to a local shop is, by the time I hear the system, I've already bought it. The fabricator, obviously, can't tell me in advance what it would sound like.
I currently have the FM 2-1/2" exhausr and, aside from it being too small, like it very much.
Anyone in the North Florida area running a 3" I could listen to?

Following up.

I decided to hit the "Easy Button" and buy the FM 3" exhaust. Easy install, sounds good. Sold the old 2-1/2" for $350.
