5x timing wheel?

searched a bit. Found a bit of info from the company but you know how that goes. (No offence)

What do you want to know? What about it. Its like the FM NB trigger wheel I believe. Instead of the standard 4 tooth trigger wheel, it replaces that and has slots so you can advance it forward and backwards to add or reduce timing.

I had one. It works.

I guess my question is does the ecu come into play and bring the timing back to oe specs? Any actual other than buttdyno gains?

We're talking about an 80's mazda ecu. No, it does not.
Butt dyno gains are very deceptive because most people's butt-dyno's are miscalibrated.

It's cheap enough for you to get, try, and report back your actual findings instead of asking silly questions about a super cheap part that's been used for years now.

I mean I don't really understand the point of the 5x timing wheel. In my mind at least when boosting, you buy a MS so you can use the stock one. If you are boosting without a MS and want to use it to retard the timing I guess that works. I don't really know what your plans are for fuel though at that point.

For a naturally aspirated car I guess you could install it and increase timing a tiny bit. The only issue I see with that is that you now need premium fuel which is a $0.30-$0.50 more a gallon. Which is easily $3-$5 more a fill up. That seems expensive to me for a very marginal increase.

n/a guys pay absurd prices for 2hp gains. we will just never understand :D

Well getting, taking the hour or so to do it, taking it to the dyno before and after. Seems a bit easier and cost effective for me to just ask. Thank you so much.

It's simply a device that lets you do the same thing as the NA guys can do with the CAS. IE, bump timing a bit for some more power up top. IMO the gains will be useless without a dyno. But if you're running an NB N/A, and you've done I/H/E, it's a great product for just a few hp if you don't want to invest in an aftermarket ECU.

edited for bump since my brain tarded out on the original joke I made *no sleep struggles*

Some racing classes either don't allow MS like SM or cost points like PTE/TTE.

Before I had my megasquirt, and was naturally aspirated, I had the 5x wheel on my car. It seemed to give more power in lower rpms. I have VVT motor so I was using high test anyway. I ran it with 15 degrees of advance. If I was going to keep a car basically stock I would probably put it back on.
