95 1.8 Engine Rebuild for Turbo
 

So to start things off I have a 93 that I blew the motor right before I deployed about 6 months ago. I picked up a 95 1.8 engine from a buddy of mine that has 125,000 miles on it. I also picked up an FMII kit from one of the guys on here that was local. So I know most of you will simply say to do the engine swap bolt up the turbo and have fun. Well I want to go ahead and do the full engine rebuild. Right now I have the motor pretty well apart and am trying to get some insight on experiences that you guys have had.

Here is a list of parts that I will be using for my rebuild so far.
-Supertech 84mm 8:6:1 pistons with Wiesco rings
-Manley forged H-Rods
-Complete ACL bearing kit
-APR Head and Main Studs

Now the questions, I have read that the valves and springs don't need to be replaced unless they are bad. At the same time is it worth it to purchase the BE oil pump over a stock pump and Supermiata Damper?

if you track the car, or want to rev higher than stock limit, or what the peace of mind, get the be pump and sm damper. both are good stuff but not mandatory for street cars.

the rest of the list is short, sweet, and effective. you're on the right track.

I'd have the valves re-seated if the head is not perfect, and definitely re-surfaced, so might want to check that

This will be a dedicated track car so I want it to last for all of the abuse that it will be getting. Also is it worth it to get a port and polish done or simply the valve job, resurface, and hone for larger pistons?

dont waste money on a bp05 head with pnp
if you want to get fancy get a 99+ head and then pnp that

No I don't specifically want to get fancy, just looking for what to do since I'm already here. Is there really that big of a difference using a 99 head?

yes, so much so that porting the bp05 head will likely only get you the flow the 99 head comes with stock

What modifications will be required to run the 99 head on the 95 block?

Slap that bitch on. Then decide which ignition setup you want to use. Get the manifold and TB with it.

Our car is 95 block, BP4W head. Currently using the 95 ignition, though i'm not 100% happy with that. Will be converting to the later style this winter.

For dedicated track use, I would go ahead and Supertech the valvetrain. I didn't do that and ended up trashing intake valves. Good to go now though.

I think Vlad is wrong. I doubt that a ported bp05 head would flow as well as a stock bp4w head. LOL.

95 block is nice. Already has the oil feed port.

How about doing a coolant reroute and would I use a stock gasket or go to a larger 84mm cosmetic gasket?

Does the cosmetic gasket look prettier or something?

You have anything more than it just being pretty? Any advice for the head gasket?

Cometic gasket is MLS....like stock.

If I recall, the stock head gasket can support 84mm bores, but unless you want a thicker .04" head gasket to decrease compression, oem should be fine.

Use a stock HG. People swear by OEM, I have used cheap $26 shipped eBay head gaskets on many builds with no issues.

I don't know, you're the one that said it was cosmetic.
