another built motor, any suggestions?

Going to be running Pauter rods and .040 over JE pistons. I wanted to use Arias pistons but I was told it would take an extreme amount of time to get what I wanted (after they charged my credit card). ARP main and head studs. Billet oil pump gears. Clevite bearings. Gates racing timing belt.

I can't decide if I want to do any head work or not. Talking with a few people I have been told that the difference with oversized valves is almost not worth the cost. At a minimum I may run a set of stage 2 integral cams.

If you do head portwork, you may as well go with the oversized valves as since you're already in for over a grand, the extra coin may as well go in. it does suck as you have like 300 for the valves and another 200 or so for the work.

headwork would be a good idea, nice gains available there, and it looks like you've already put some coin into parts. this shows the difference between oversized vs not oversized valves. Back cut valves that are STD size though are pointless because at that point you should go oversized. Or you can reuse your stock valves, new springs/retainers, and cams with port work. Valves could be reused, and if you keep track of them should be fine. if not, or they hit the seats or something they can be re-lapped in and all is well.

You may also consider going with adjustable timing gears, but remember the bump on the intake cam gear is an issue for our cars.

Lots of other little things (IM, TB, coolant re-route, etc) but good luck.

Right, what he said.

Though, if you do headwork, your TB/Intake manifold are going to be HUGE MONTSTROUS bottle necks. people gain significant amounts of power on stock heads with intake mani swaps.. soooo, yes. no, I do not have a vested interest in this.... yet.

Yeah I have been looking into the intake manifold route for a while, cant decide if I want a begi part or something one off.

I can say that head work and intake mani are worth every penny. I'm makin over 400 on 18psi and I have power curve the climbs straight to redline, and can keep climbing if I reved higher. I'm running integral r3 intake and r1 ex though. But seriously you will not regret spending the money one bit. I work for a machine shop and I have all the fixturing and a superflow flow bench. I can do your porting and head work. Pm if your interested

You could always do the Honda intake mani swap or get ahold of Gotpsi? about his manifold he's about to start making https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo-discussion-14/intake-manifold-build-42877/

Thanks for the link to his thread. That is definitely something I will look into.

I have to say Travis at boundary engineering is great. I ordered oil pump gears without paying attention and ended up getting the wrong gears. He let me exchange them without any hassle at all.

I went to put the valve cover on today and found out my felpro gasket does not fit.
