Another large injector option (1100cc)

So long story short I had been maxing out the 550cc RX-7 injectors on my 1999 even with the Walbro 255HP pump. This is with a GT2871 running up to 18 psi. I decided it was time to get larger injectors and started reading up.

The hot ticket right now for large injectors seems to be the relatively new Bosch EV14 injectors. The biggest ones Bosch makes are about 600cc IIRC, but lots of companies are starting with the base injector and modifying them for increased flow. They also add tophat pieces to adapt them to the fuel rail ports for whatever vehicle. This, from what I can tell, is how companies like Injector Dynamics produce their big injectors.

So I started surfing around and found good reports about injectors from Fuel Injector Clinic http://www.fuelinjectorclinic.com/. They offer an 1100cc option which is just about what I was looking for in case I try E85 later on. So I bought a set of the EVO 1100cc (modified Bosch EV14) for about $475 shipped with plug adapters. Like any of the modified Bosch EV14 injectors they are not cheap.

But so far I am really happy with them. The car is running great. And, though I am still tuning the idle, believe it or not, they are idling fine at 14:1 AFR. I daresay they idle possibly a bit better than the 550cc RX7 injectors were (which were cleaned and flow tested). This is important to me since the car is a DD so I want good idling and cruising behavior. So far so good.

It is hard to believe an injector this big can have good idle and cruise behavior but there it is. More later after I get to the dyno.

I am using these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-DEN...Q5fCarQ5fParts

The fuel they provide is enough for 450hp. I idle at 14-14.2 perfectly no misfires.
Also the ride quality is even better than the stock ones.

EDIT: I didn't read the whole thread. Good pick. :)

Good shit, i have the ID injectors and have similar results.

Any idea what power level you are at with the 2871 at that PSI?

ZX-Tex 06-14-2010 01:14 PM

Should be solidly North of 300 RWHP.

Those look like a solid option for gasoline only, or E85 at guessing say 250 HP or so. Nice.

Nice...Looks like big turbo owners options are broadening:)

Tex,

How did you modify the male end of the injectors to fit the Mazda IM if at all? I ask because I have a similar set of injectors and I've been having difficulty with fitment.

railz 06-14-2010 04:01 PM

ZX - wouldnt these : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Bos...Q5fCarQ5fParts

have been a plug in play option?

The injector has a top hat piece that is used to adjust the length and size of the feed port for the rail.

I do not think so. I think on those the feed port on the injector is too large. For the ones I have the injectors have the aforementioned top hat added to the top of injector to add length, and reduce the feed port size. The ID injectors do the same thing.

I looked for an ebay option before getting these but did not do it for two reasons. One, I could not find a Bosch EV14 1100cc with the proper length and feed port diameter. Two, I wanted to be sure I was getting them from a trustworthy source and FIC has a good reputation from what I have read/been told. The injectors came with flow test data (matched) and the dead time versus voltage data.

pusha 06-14-2010 04:46 PM

I meant the end of the injectors that slides into the feed port. The Bosch ones don't fit with the factory injector cushions.

Can i ask for a direct link to those exact 1100cc injectors ZX?
thanks

No direct link on their web site. You have to call them up and talk to them. FWIW the part number on my invoice for the injectors is IS126-1100H and the part number for the electrical adapter plugs is PADPJtoD4.

I really need to post a picture of the injectors I bought. Will do as soon as I can.

Savington 06-14-2010 07:45 PM

Did they supply dead times with the injectors?

ZX-Tex 06-14-2010 09:00 PM

Yes they did. It is a table that lists dead times as a function of voltage and rail pressure. The Adaptronic has dead time voltage correction so it is useful information.

Sparetire 06-14-2010 09:20 PM

I have also had good experiences with FIC. I bought a set of 650s and a set of 950s from them, no problems or regrets ever. The 650 are in a freinds car, the 950s are sitting in my living room because I suck.

Good info.

OK here is a picture of the four injectors and one of the adapter connectors.

Deatschwerks is going to be putting out an 800cc offering. I'm in testing for these now. Will let you guys know how it comes out. I suspect they will be in the mid $300 range, but I haven't got the price list for them yet.

FRT_Fun 06-14-2010 10:08 PM

I have a set of the 800cc DWInjectors, although I won't have them up in running until Fall. Definitely another good option if you don't need 1000cc+.

How long have you been running them? How many miles? Were they plug and play?
