any reputable machine shops in oregon or norcal?
 

I'm going to be building up my VVT motor for boost and wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with any machine shops in Oregon or northern cali. I'm located in southern Oregon so the closer the better but would much rather drive a little longer to make sure my engine is machined correctly. Any info would be much appreciated.

Just replied to your email too. Theres a number of shops I'd recommend for head or block work, however they're all in the greater Portland area. Aluminum head rebuilders is our current shop we use for head work, we send all BMW/miata heads there. I also really like Clackamas Auto Parts, the owner Art is really nice and reasonable, they're the ones who machined my block for Wisecos/etc, they also do head work.

Okay sweet thank you. I'll have to give them a call. I don't know anyone that has any experience with machine shops around here so glad to have a recommendation especially from someone else with a Miata. The last shop I had my engine at they were wasting my time.

In Redding the Napa on California st. has a machine shop. Mark is the guy that runs the machine shop. He should be able to turn around a block quickly for you. He’s been building motors here in Redding for 40 years that I know of. He’s building a Miata shortblock for a friend of mine now.

I gave Clackamas a call and he said there 6 months out before they can even start to work on my engine and all the places they recommended were the same. I gave that Napa a call and you were right they're pretty short on business right now. I wasn't able to talk to mark as he had left for the day but should be able to talk to him tomorrow morning and get a quote and turnaround time hopefully.

So Mark is willing to do everything on my block for a pretty good price only problem is he cant do a line bore for my billet caps and that needs to be done first. Hes going to do some research and get back to me if he knows anyone that can do it near him. Only places i know of at least so far that can do that are in Portland and in Sacramento but they're either pretty spendy or wont be able to do it for a while. Ive heard there's a place in Eugene that can do it but i need to do some more research on them. hopefully, he has some good news for me when he calls me back.
