Is anybody running remote temp sensor?

I'm doing the reroute, and, wondering if anyone has placed their sensor in the upper rad hose.
I've been looking around, but can't seem to find anything pre-made for less than $40.

This is what my temp sensor looks like http://images.wrenchead.com/smartpag...S/15-72754.jpg

and the silly thing is interfering with thermostat.
Do I need a different sensor?

rweatherford 02-18-2010 08:23 PM

Doesn't it need to be in the head or recirculating flow? Otherwise you won't know what the temp is while the termostat is closed.

alik 02-18-2010 08:36 PM

Well, one way or another it's gonna be past the thermostat, so, the reading WILL be inaccurate.

This http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...gL._SS500_.jpg is what I'm looking for.

rweatherford 02-18-2010 11:56 PM

I think I need to do some reading because I don't see the point in not knowing the accurate temp of your engine. If the thermo sticks closed how do you know the engine is overheating.

look up a god damn coolant reroute you newbs.

Drill back of head (helps to remove first), or buy/make proper spacer.

I've got a Vision VDO mechanical gauge that is going in with the new motor. Capillary action ftw, tube is 6' long, allowing you to hoist motor, unscrew, and then remove motor, or vice versa for install.

Umm.. we have those in stock.

alik 02-19-2010 03:16 PM

Problem is, the branch on those things is threaded to 1/8 NPT, and, it's $40 bucks. :(

Braineack 02-19-2010 03:38 PM

BEGi could tap this for 3/8" for you:

BEGi

still $40 though.

I think my problem is that 1.6L thermo-sensor is so long, that it interferes with the thermostat no matter which way you spin it, that's why I gotta make it remote.

Braineack, how did you deal with heater core return being fed into water pump? Left it alone?
Should it be left alone? Should it be piped into the upped rad hose?

Braineack 02-19-2010 04:01 PM

it should be left alone and plumb to the water pump inlet.

I did kinda think that this would BE the reason. Thanks! (And, sorry for the stupid question)

Looks very cute. Can it be tapped for M16x1.5? And, is it deep enough to accept my thermo-sensor?

Is that link for the bushing?
I'm confused, man.

Edit: the 3/8" NPT is not equal to M16x1.5, is it?

Braineack 02-19-2010 06:18 PM

whoops, assumed it was 3/8"

do it not fit how you had it in the image you sent me? thats pretty much how mine looked, just barely fit between the two springs.

alik 02-19-2010 06:25 PM

That is with the thermo-sensor completely displacing the thermostat, and, the latter facing the wrong way.
3/4" spacer, lathed by my buddy. I've asked him to go 1", but, even then, I doubt that it would ever fit.

The way it the spacer is right now, it's barely wide enough for the water outlet/thermo-sensor.

Braineack 02-19-2010 06:35 PM

You might be able to get the common m16x1.5 to 1/8NPT adapter and tap the 1/8" out to m16

We do have an metric adaptor with that M16x1.5 that is screwed into the adaptor, yes it is deep enough for your sensor.

I saw that kit, and thought that it's male m16x5 and female 1/8 NPT?
Kinda like this
