Anyone want to jump in on custom cam GB?

Pricing is for one cam only or both? I have Mazdaspeed blanks for both intake and exhaus for my VVT engine.

Nah, you send them your cams, they hardweld them and regrind to whatever you want. I haven't picked an exact grind yet...but probably something along the lines of what evo/dsm "272" would be.

Looking at their site... looks like they normally charge $691 for both cams for us. Probably not including any shipping etc, but IDK.

Nope, whatever you want. The GB is actually for the 2.3L MZR DISI engines. They were a few guys short, so we asked if a Miata guy could join and they had no issues at all. I called and talked to them yesterday... told them basically what I was looking for, but we're not picking an exact grind number until they get mine.
Edit: bottom line, get 10 guys/set of cams together and they will do the volume discount. there's also not a limit to the number on the GB on Mazdaspeed forums....but the guy needs the cams by the 21st, this post is kinda last minute. |

To use 10.7mm lift I had to go down to 33 mm base circle (that and that the Mazda blank did not have meat for the wanted duration). Cams is a Pandoras box, you never know when to end going around in circles (720 degrees would be enough one would think). |
where is the group buy thread? I've been searching that forum and haven't seen it yet.

Well... I would contact them to double check then if you are VVT. FWIW, they don't have any "pre canned" grinds for the 01-05 engines... The rest of the guys in this group buy have VVT intake cams, I'm not sure if that's something you're going to run into universally wtih VVT ones or if just the Miata ones in particular....I have no experience with the VVT heads.

They were friendly and helpful when I called. As far as narrowing it down to exact specs.. they told me that could just be done once they finally get mine in at their shop. I'd be curious to know if they have any info specific to VVT head/intake cam

With a VVT cam, lift has to be concidered.
With The VVT since the valve changes its open and close in relation to piston postion at the dwell at TDC. I doubt much can be done with the VVT cam with the big dome pistons, but the turbo dish pistons should not have as much of an issue. |
