Came across an aftermarket intake manifold, never heard of it, but it says it fits; 89-97 Miata 1.6 DOHC

Did a quick search on the company, "GUDE," got nothing..

For the price, this sounds too good to be true...is anyone using this manifold?

For the money I'd rather use it to heat my living room. Gude is a So Cal company that made what looked like good stuff. I actually went to try and work for them back in the day. The owner was a cool and seemed very intelligent. However, his workers seemed to think you could port with a hammer. Some were good and some came out looking like fat chick thighs. I would help that is was 10 years ago then. Really doubt the same tool jobs are there. Google porting, buy a dremmel 4000 with the flexible wand, buy add some sanding and polishing pieces, and unless you can't wipe yourself you can probably save $250 and get within a few ponies of the Gude job. And you'll feel good about yourself. The intake in said add doesn't look like it's been cut open, ported, and welded. See the Renown performance port thread. Thats more of a "real" port but more $. I'm no engineer (yet) but my 2penies.

Thanks for the Shout out TorqueZombie. Yes there are some company's out there that are very inconsistent with there work this causes some mixed reviews. How ever when it comes down to what we offer, the $450 is for us to cut open the 94-97 intake manifold and port it. Now if you had a 2 piece manifold like what most Miata guys run, The cost drops quite a bit.

Gude was a popular company in the late 90's and delt mostly with Hondas. They have fallen off the map since then, but it looks like they still have a website up. http://www.gude.com/ . FWIW, they were not considered to be one of the best companies to buy parts from back in 99-00, I don't know if that has changed.

What about extrude honing? Don't know a whole lot about it but in theory is makes a lot of sense.

Extrude hone basically forces a clay like material with abrasives through the manifold. It evenly removes material and follows the same path as air would in the intake manifold. The downside is if there are areas that need more work done or large areas removed such as the EGR bulge in the 1.8 motor intake manifold, extrude hone isnt the best choice as you can't really "aim" the abrasive material.

For the 1.8 manifold companies like Renown is your best choice as they target the problem areas.
