Basics of Engine Building
Hey all,
Since my Miata was totaled over here: https://www.miataturbo.net/media-53/...totaled-81499/ I think the next logical step is to get a chassis and build an engine over the winter. Nothing crazy, probably just a normal rebuild + forged rods/pistons. Anyway I'm looking for someone to point me in a good direction to learn about engine building, I've been looking over some articles but it seems most of them focus on pushrod v8's. While I'm sure a lot of the info carries over, I'm looking for info focused more toward DOHC i4's obviously. Any help is appreciated.. books/pdfs/articles etc would be great. |
Search for Bogus_SVO on here, he was a machinist that posted a ton of good information.

if your lucky you might have a local Community college with an auto program that teaches things like this and you get to use all of their equipment. I'm starting to take classes early next year.

I've seen a few of Bogus_SVO's posts - I'll check out the other ones. I'm looking into a few books on Amazon. This one looks like it covers the engine as well as other repairs: This one too: |
And I know this is stupid but if you can get a Mazda factory manual that will help a lot. A lot nicer than having to go through it online.

There is a unique 99-05 FSM for the longblock.
|
Have you seen this FSM for a reasonable price anywhere? Even a DL version ?
|

Mazda MX-5 Miata 1.8: Enthuasiast Workshop Manual by Rod Grainger, Pete Shoemark ISBN 1845840909 is a good book.
|
That's one of the books I was considering. I will likely pick that up.
