Boost is gone! What to do.

Ok so last night I went to the miata meet up in dallas. Car ran great. On the way home I did a 0-60 run full throotle. It acted wierd and then died when i let off the throttle to coast. Started back up and the idle is always a little wierd. Drove the rest of the way home with it not really wanting to idle with no throttle.

I figured it was just beign tempremental.

Well this morning on the way to work it is running slugish. So I punch it to see what the boost is getting up to and wow it will only go to 4psi and it gets there much slower than before to.

My Wideband is reading rich everywhere in the rpm band. I cant hear the wastegate at all between shifts like before.

Any ideas?

I check all the hose's and they are all still secure.

And now I have mispelled Boost in the title. Opps. Not a good day.

Braineack Oct 13, 2011 11:41 AM

check hoses.

ignition system taking a shit and causing unburnt fuel in exhaust?

hornetball Oct 13, 2011 12:37 PM

Do a compression test.

Braineack Oct 13, 2011 12:38 PM

YOU LOST A COUPLER. reattach.

Bryce Oct 13, 2011 12:47 PM

Do a boost leak test.

Techsalvager Oct 13, 2011 12:47 PM

stock ecu? bet you have a leak somewhere, coupler probably blown off

+1

If you heard a pop while you were driving and then boost no longer works I almost guarantee this is why.

Vashthestampede Oct 13, 2011 01:09 PM

+10

If you are idling weird and not building boost, check all couplers and clamps.

Don't just check for loose couplers though, check for tears and rips as well.

90 Turbo Oct 13, 2011 01:41 PM

I will look again but I am getting vacum at idle and 4 psi sometime on boost?

I will check again now.

Braineack Oct 13, 2011 01:48 PM

4psi in the manifold - spinning fast enough for 22psi out of the turbo...

You folks are amazing. I could have sworn it was not a hose. i had looked.
BUT there is was, where the intercooler tube meets the Throttle body tube. A loose hose clamp. The clamp is actualy broken (one of the loops that holds the cylnder nut the bolt pulls on to clamp is snapped.). I was able to reinsert the tube in far enough in the hose to get a good seal for now and the broken clamp is fairly tight.
Thanks you all. You folks are jedi's.

Now where do I find another clamp. Will a regular hose clamp work? Is there a speed shop in the dallas area that will have the heavy duty ones like I have now?

Wow just wow this forum is the best!!!

Actually, I withdraw the compression test recommendation. I missed that OP was running the stock ECU with a FPR. Definitely sounds like a massive intake leak somewhere after the AFM.

yeah after he told you the problem :giggle:

OP, a regular hose clamp for the parts store will work for now. but t-clamps are the best.
