Buying rods - advice on these which I assume are scat/tuned etc
Buying these rods to start my build. I'm 99% sure they are the standard Scat/Tuned etc rod that has been floating around for years. Also thought this was the best price I'd seen for new.

The specs are correct and you get 2000's? Buy em.

Done, and now I've started going down a road I cannot return from. Built engine here I come!

any other input on these rods?
i'm about to pull the trigger |
They've arrived. I see that they have ARP 2000 bolts and look like the ones I've seen around here with other names but other than that I cannot say. I am not a machinist or have measured them exactly or have another "brand" to compare to. The machining looks great but I've only put together modern motocross and ATV engines so don't put much weight into my opinions.
They smell funny..... |
i'm curious if anyone else has bought some.
how many did they have in stock when you bought em? do you recall? |
I'm curious too, how soon before you plan to have them checked out by a competent machine shop that can tell if they are quality or not?
200 for forged rods plus arp hardware sound alarmingly cheap. |
dude said they weigh about 472g, which is less than the scat's...

On a scale in our mail room
537/479 - bolts/no-bolts |
ahhhH!!!!
that makes sense. i just bought the scats from 949. ---- it. |
I bought a set of those, they are in my car now and I have no problems. My machinist said they are what they claim to be, for that price don't be stupid to pass that offer, you will be satisfied as for I sure am!

I have these (or SGI brand but same) and they are great.
|
I bought of the CXracing rods. They weigh about the same as these. They fit nice. They were all fairly close in weight too. I only had to grind just a touch off of one to make them within .1 gram.
They are obviously more beefy than the stock rods. |
Are there any "bad" rods left on the market? It does not seem so (400bhp and less).
Rods are simple enough construction so anyone can make it work. If you want to maximize the weight reduction for your power level, you are on your own, as always. Pistons, valves, springs and retainers are not that simple... |
