cant figure out coolant leak
2 Attachment(s)
So I recently changed the timing belt, water pump, and all that jazz, also pulled the motor to replace the oil pan.
Now I have a coolant leak, I can't seem to locate the source. First I found out one of my heater hoses had a tiny hole in it, so I made new one, now that area seems to be leak free. But it's still leaking coolant. This is where its dripping from, the boot on the transmission that holds the clutch slave cylinder: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1332015063 which is weird, cause I'm positive there isn't supposed to be coolant there. I check the hose in the back of the block, that doesn't seem to be leaking, can't seem to figure this out. Could it actually be leaking out of that boot? that's the only area that seems to be affected by this. Oh and it's not like a drip drip leak, its more like the motor is pissing out the coolant. |
Ok its not the boot.
Had my dad pour in water while I check to see where its coming from, somewhere back of the block, but all teh hoses are dry, ahhh |
If all hoses are dry and okay, and it's coming from the back of the engine...head gasket? Freeze plug?

I didn't think of the plug, thanks for the idea, I'm going to go check that. |
Check the hoses that feed the oil cooler.
If the leak started after you did the pump, are you sure it's not the pump? |

Dreded water plug. Or outlet gasket.
|
Yes, but if it started leaking right after a pump job, kinda seems fishy does it not?
Maybe it's running to the back, idk? |

Fixed it.
Feel retarded, turns out the bottom bolt was loose, which was super hard to get to haha. Thanks for all the help. |

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I have the same exact problem, and didnt want to make a new thread lol.. So which rear outlet are you speaking off? Maybe I can fix it the same way as you did :)
