CEL for EGR Valve

Just want to know peoples thoughts on clearing this. I have a ‘99 mx-5 with a 5spd trans. Should I do an EGR delete (will it clear the CEL), clear the EGR valve, or replace it with a new one? What have you done or recommend? Thanks in advance!

Deleting it may clear the CEL but it could cause the car to run lean at times and also polute more for no performance gain so :td:

Blocking off the EGR will cause a permanent CEL, in addition to the negatives Enzob brought up. Fix it properly if you are keeping the car stock.

I had this issue when I first got my NB, I tried cleaning the manifold/EGR stuff out but that didn't help. Rerouting the vacuum line like this thread finally took care of it.

Replace the EGR and run it. It's good for fuel economy and doesn't really affect max power.

EGR is expensive, vacuum hose is cheap. I never saw an impact on fuel economy with the vacuum reroute VS. the fuel econonomy I've gotten out of other 1.8 Miatas.
