Clean the intake?
I'm waiting on money to start rolling in before I can buy more things; however, I lucked out earlier in the year and scored a squaretop. I cleaned the outside of it today with Simple Green Extreme + pressure washer, but I was curious if it would be worth it to pull it apart and clean out the inside before installing it on the VVT engine I have.
What needs to be done to reassemble it? Any gaskets? RTV? Thanks. |
Assuming you don't mess up the metal gasket, it can be reused. I recommend using RTV regardless.
Cleaning it will take $5 of throttle body cleaner, and 30min. I would do so. |
Torque specs?

FWIW: I torque the manifold bolts with a 4 inch, 1/4 inch drive ratchet. Just use your non-dominant hand, and push until they are snug. Lower final pressure than a drain plug. I also broke the far left rear bolt when I installed mine. No vacuum leaks or issues to speak of. |
The intake is from a EUDM 2001-2005.

I have the 99 shop manual, torque should be the same. PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

Guys this is not hard stop bein retarded
The plenum bolts are not load or torque bearing. Tighten then down and make a fukking seal. That is all there is too it. Also I say only rtv if your boost leak tester shows leaks. Use the metal gasket. I have taken my plenum off 63,232 times. No leaks. If i can you can too. That or admit you are a worse mechanic then I am. |
A Hondata IMG will keep the intake manifold a good bit cooler and gives you an extra 1/4" clearance for your coolant return if you have a reroute running along that side of the motor. If the manifold is coming off anyway, I'd go ahead and spend the $50 on it.

pheloholic spacers are total BS. Having the stupid thing spaced from the engine wont do dick. The damn engine bay is liek 250*F ambient.

This is what it did when I put it on my boyfriend's RSX: Hondata IMG temp variations - Club RSX Message Board
I'm sure it's nothing significant power wise, but the more cool air I can get in the motor the better. Plus it did make a noticeable difference in getting the rerouted coolant hose around the charge piping and in swapping injectors. |

I need some phenoholic up on my balls! I bet his ass is not as finely tuned as my ass. Dyno and thats why he couldnt sense the 1/346th of hp difference. What a waste of money and time. |
