Cold air intake
2 Attachment(s)
So I fell victim to the shiny carbon fiber FB ads and bought an intake that may not be the best for airflow.
came across Renderos racing aluminum custom intake project and it looks like this would work for my NA. After reading 949 posts about 2.5" diameter and 21" length, i wanted to see if I can get some advice from the group on the best location and size for the intake. I am not trying to chase the last 1/2hp but want to make sure it's the best functional setup for the car. Thanks |
As you said, SuperMiata has the specs figured out, just copy. Furthermore ,you posted 2 pics of two totally different types of intakes. What did you buy?

the yellow car should be NA
|
i bought the CF one

Note that the yellow NA you posted doesn’t have the pop up headlight assembly. If you driving this car on the street you’ll need another headlight solution.

i don't either

I've installed and tuned a number of those over-the-radiator setups, although none had that bump, not sure if that's going to make any power difference or not. That's a supermiata radiator it fits over however, and with the side endtanks of that radiator, there's a fair amount of hood interference usually.
They make great power, I know when an intake is restrictive on a dyno, and these certainly aren't. However, if an NA doesn't have headlight buckets, I wouldn't choose to put the filter in front of the radiator due to serviceability. It's a bit of a PITA to tighten the filter. |
Same. The filter removal is a bitch and that's why I am trying to figure out whether the go from TB to the headlight bucket area where it's now pretty empty (other than my Thompson remote oil filter).

Thanks Emilio. I spoke to Alex and he used 2.25 pipe as it was likely the only diameter that fit for NA around the radiator and hood clearance.
Did you guys ever fit a 2.5" around the crossflow rad? |

Lurker here, sorry for digging up quiet thread.
Are any of these over-the-radiator intakes confirmed to work with NB's? I've found a few online from a few different sources, but it seems like they're only ever pictured on NA's and I can't get anyone who has one/makes one to answer if it will fit an NB. |
Big thread about 3D printing these intakes here.
