There's no need to run a capacitor from what I've read/search, but to answer your question, the capacitor goes from your 12v to GND.

I'm assuming you're talking about Toyota COPS.

yes on the toyota coilpack setup, so your saying just to follow the diagram for the coil packs and thats it? no cap needed? plus i might look dumb now but the 12v to gnd is that on the coil pack loom?

Did you read this? It's the first thing that pops up when you type "miata toyota cop". Should answer everything. Some use capacitors, some don't. If you have one, it wouldn't hurt, if you don't it's probably fine.

Yes, cap goes in the coil pack loom, not sure where else it'd go.

Yes, to all three of your questions.

So now the last two posters have conflicting advice. One says capacaitor, one says no.

If you have it, wire the capacitor in, if you don't, don't worry about it. I don't have a capacitor in mine, and it's been running fine.

Oh. I'm running a ms3

aidandj 07-15-2016 06:34 PM

Toyota cops wont work with a stock ecu. stock ECU will blow the coils because of incorrect dwell.

PhilFPM 07-16-2016 03:28 AM

ahh ok thanks :) guess that plan is out then

this is untruth.

there are/were plenty of people running them on stock ECUs without any negative effects.

There was only an issue with NB setups, but it wasn't that they would blow, they simply wouldn't fire.

@rleete just did it--after a bunch of naysayers said not to--and it's been fine.

Stock ECU, 1994 model. No issues whatsoever. Runs better, smoother. I've been driving the hell out of it for two weeks in blazing heat. No problems at all.
