Different turbo setup question...Garret/Precision
Every now and then read on other forced induction forums, have noticed a lot is said about the GT30, GT35, sc66 and the Precision 6262.
All seem to be in the 700 and up price range, Are this turbos good for 4-cylinder applications? Does one need to raise compression/displacement?
Any experience with any of them?

Gt30r/GT35R on a 1.8l (30r in red)
I don't see any sheets for a sc66 or a 6262.
Bottom line, it is all about what you want. Pretty much any t3 based turbo is *good* for a 4cyl (to a point) but its all about how much you want to have under the curve and ultimately how much peak power you want to make.
Upping displacement always helps. Upping compression isn't necessarily advisable on pump gas.
I don't see any sheets for a sc66 or a 6262.

PTE turbos tend to be of good quality. You see them a lot in areas where a car might already be turboed and folks want a unit that retains the OEM flange patterns for ease of install and $ savings. The turbine housings IME tend toward low boost threshold rather than max flow. So you will see a SC61 (which is more or less a 35R in terms of HP ability on the compressor side) with good spool relative to a journal bearing GT35 but making less power at the same boost due to a more restrictive turbine housing. But the fact that you can bolt it right up to a stock DSM manifold, make your 500+ WHP, with a price tag of about 800 bucks is pretty good value.
Personaly, if I am going to start from a non-turbo, I will use a T3 flange and run either a S series Borg-Warner or a Garret.

MasterPower turbos should be looked at as well. Brazilian industrial turbo manufacturer now makes them for performance car sector. Around $650
Plenty of them used on V8's making 700hp+ and running 9's@140mph+ in 3,000lb cars.
Precision makes great turbos as well as Garrett and Turbonetics. Precision fully stands behind their product when replacement/warranty issues arise. Great company.
Depending upon your power goals a used Buick Grand National (T3/T4 hybrid) could suit your needs and can be found for under $200 used fairly easily. It is 20+ year old technology though..... They can make 350rwhp easily.
