ebay water pump issue

Well I performed a 1.8 swap into my 93 miata a few months ago and am having a few issues. The water pump belt was creating alot of dust and squelling sometimes no matter how tight or loose it was adjusted. So I replaced the belt and it stopped for a little while then came back. Well I was also having a smoking problem from exhaust at idle and noticed turbo leaking oil on tubine housing so removed it and had it rebuilt. I installed turbo after rebuild and thecar would turn over but starup and die. I just happened to put my hand on water pump pulley and it was really hot. Just wondering if the water pump I got from ebay is bad?
So I removed my belt tonight to see if the alternator and water pump pulleys were turning freely and they both were. So what else should I check or should I just change the water pump. Just don't want to change the water pump and still have a problem. Before removing the turbo I drove the miata for about 2 months after the engine swap. But sometimes it didnt want to start right away. Oh yeah I used the crank pulley, alternator, and water pump pulley from 1.6. Any help would be appreciated.

Type that again, structure it like an 8th grader, and with general topics in separate paragraphs so we can understand it and you'll get a reply. Try not to use "passive voice" and use fewer prepositional phrases. Do the forum a favor and write directly, with action.

Check with a straight edge to see if everything is in line. I would be willing to bet you should have used the pulleys from the 1.8 motor. It was also hard as fuck to figure out what the hell you were actually trying to ask.

I will check tomorrow with a straight edge but I thought the 1.8 pulley used a ribbed belt and the 1.6 uses a v-belt. Thanks for the advice though good thing to look into.

1.8 does use a ribbed belt. So you probably would not want to use that if your alternator has a V belt.

What's the history on the motor? If all the pulleys spin free, with no excessive side play, and are lined up well, you might want to make sure the motor isn't screwed up. Pull the belt and make sure the crank spins ok.

What possed you to buy an Ebay water pump anyway? If you have an issue, it costs time and extra money to warranty it. For what, to save ten bucks? All it did was create doubt and confusion. There's nothing wrong with GhettoZone parts.

Thanks lordigamus I will check that the crank spins freely when I pull the timing belt to change the water pump. Yeah I got another water pump from a buddy at oreilly's at a discount so maybe between checking the water pump and crank I will find the problem. Oh yeah the motor is from a salvage yard and could possibly be the issue. I will let you guys know what I find. Thanks for your help.

Hopefully it's not the motor. You just can't tell how long it's been there or how it was stored. It would be great if it's something simple. It should turn pretty easy with the plugs out. You should be able to spin it with them in, it would just be a little more difficult.
