EGR Bypass...
 
I have had my egr deleted for some time now, pipe removed and covered. The sensor I put under the dash as I don't have MS or anything of the sort.

I read somewhere that the sensor needs to be depressed o pressed in. I don't remember which, that one way would cause to run lean or rich, once again I don't remember.

So which is it? Pressed or depressed? At the moment I do run rich or so I believe, black smoke around my bumper, can smell gas, and get shitty gas mileage.

First:
Ctrl + Click Here
Put your car information in the form that comes up, what year is it, is it non-USDM?, did you paint it bright pink?, any cool mods?, then click the save button at the bottom.

Second (Optional):
Ctrl + Click Here
Go down to the box that says "location" and put either your town or the nearest major metropolitan area, and then click save. This is "optional" because knowing where you are located might cause a mr. fix-it to volunteer to come out and look at the problem in person - or worse - you might be forced into making local Miata friends.

Third: What sensor are you talking about? To be sure: some cars have a valve, two solenoids, and a sensor while other cars simply have a valve and two solenoids. "Sensor" can be easily confused with any of the valves/solenoids. This is where the first instruction in this post is important. Attach a picture of your sensor, because I can't even imagine a sensor that can be "Pressed or depressed" - both of which have the same meaning. (Press and Depress are synonyms, not antonyms)

My apologies, details included, location set. However I can guarantee no one near by who has the knowledge of this.

The sensor on top; when removed. Has a small plunger that moves, on a thread here I believe it was said that you may need to tape the plunger down. But I cant find the thread now.

Ahh, you've got a 1994 miata with a 1991 unibody ;)

It looks like you've got just the sensor for the EGR valve. (this is why I couldn't picture what you were talking about - most people don't separate the sensor from the valve) From what I've read, it sounds like the sensor only senses if the valve opens. If the picture you provided is accurrate, vacuum should "open" the valve by pulling the internals "down", effectively away from the sensor, thus a sensor on a correctly operating EGR Valve would tell the ECU "yep, it's opened" when the sensor mechanism is pulled.

So as the sensor is at this moment, the ecu thinks that the egr valve would be open(pulling in exhaust) thus dumps more fuel correct?

Appreciate your help, and apologize for not having my info in my sig. I will have to start a build thread soon.

I don't know enough about the ECU to tell you if it does or doesn't dump more fuel, but I know enough theory to tell you that the EGR should make no difference in fueling, as the EGR gas is inert and the car should only be adding fuel based on the MAF and probably tip-in of the TPS, both of which should be unaffected by the EGR system. If your CEL is on, find out what the blinky light code says is wrong.
