Default Emergency Lemons Issue

92 stock everything, we are having fuel cut at increasing frequency depending on what seems to be fuel level. We scrubbed the tank, had lots of rust, replaced the pump, sock, filter. Drained the tank, fresh fuel, it runs fine until a bit above half a tank, then we get a fuel cut on high load. We will change the filter again, it got nasty again but it still seems to be correlated with tank level. Looking for ideas. We plan on removing the tank tonight and trying to go through it.

Sounds like the tank is just done. If a tank is falling apart internally, the only remedy is to replace it (or coat it, but that sucks). Clean it all you want, more rust will just flake off and clog your filter and sock (if that indeed is your issue).

Also, is the in tank return pipe stock? or is it shortened?

we are searching for a potential replacement at the moment. Everything is stock.

Clogged injectors? If everything else has been cleaned and replaced I would look there.

One of our bandaids for the moment is spraying the **** off of the sock with solvent, it has been sucking up **** and just getting caked so that’s less fuel there. We have also lined the tank with magnets and are now practiced enough on swapping filters.

start calling up junk yards for a new tank. send one member there, rest of the team starts dropping the subframe. Remember to brace the front if you're sitting on jack stands.

Let me know if you need me to drop a set of injectors in the mail for you. I have a set of nb2 and nb2 injectors.

I had the same issue in my ITS race miata. I’m convinced it’s the gas tank.

We got a new clean tank in and the car ran like a champ. Shame we missed out on so much with pitting every 45 minutes the first day.
