I would like to think that I know what I am doing, however I would never go as far to say I am a good driver thats when fate bites your arse! Plus there are very very good drivers out there who would make me seem just average if that, haha

Our engines have some harmonics issues that can effect reliability at higher RPMs and higher power levels. It is cheap insurance. Drop swaybar from mounts (leave in end links) Rip the radaiator out of the car with a claw hammer Remove crank bolt Put car in gear, Use shitty autozone puller or whatever to yoink damper Reinstall with air gun or pulley installer Adds about 30 minuts to timing belt job That's it I say u should get a turbo big enough for 350hp. You can always leave the boost low if you are scared like little girl. "Big turbo" that is fully spooled at 4000rpm lines up perfectly with miata shift points. Also, when above 4000rpm spool is instantaneous with throttle on/off |

Hustler is wrong- you do not have to pull the engine to remove an ati damper. See my build thread for details on how to do it. 350whp in a 2000lb car is moronic. I would know, the car's in my shop right now. Spins 3rd from a 40mph roll, lays stripes on corner exit in 4th, throttle rotation at 95mph in 5th gear. The only "safe" gear is 6th, and it still pulls with authority from 130-155mph. I can count on one hand the number of cars that will pull away in a straight line.
350whp is doable on track, but you need to be reasonable about the expectations. Doing 12 events a year, you can expect to go through 3-4 sets of pads and rotors, 1-2 transmissions, 1-2 sets of wheel bearings, 2-3 sets of tires, and refresh the motor every 2 years. This is with a bbk, ducting, high-dollar bearings, and a litany of other mods done to improve part life. The black car is really, really properly fast, though. It's a pain in the ass sometimes, but I love it. |

You honestly need to order half your parts here from the states. If you are serious about building this car I would give Andrew (Savington) of Trackspeed your money and have him put every part you will need ie oil cooler, turbo, v band mani, dp, em, im, ic, bbk, rods, pistons, pump gears, os giken, xida, 6ul etc in one big crate and ship it all at once.
|
Thats the other thing, parts here are silly money! It's the import duty that is going to be a killer though.
Sav - Have you any links to vids that show speedo for an idea of just how fast it is? I would imagine that I would only be doing circa 6 trackdays a year. BBK is wilwood calipers with my own design bracket and maybe Fiat coupe 20v turbo discs, not sure yet. |
savington has a bunch of vids on youtube of his car on track.
I believe under the same name. check em out doubt you'll see speedo shots though |

I haven't had a speedo in my car for a while, sadly, but I will be putting a Racepak in it this year with dash overlay into the video for general hilarity. Until then, the top of 3rd gear is 80mph, top of 4th is 100mph, top of 5th is ~130mph, and the top of 6th is 154mph. The car gets through 3-4-5 pretty damn quick. |
