Engine building

What is the best route to take to ensure I do not destroy my engine when adding turbo? I was thinking new pistons and rods to start with

Education is the best way to not destroy an engine when you turbo. It is literally that simple. Study this site for a year.

Knowledge is horsepower.

Horsepower and reliability are gained through knowledge.

Your best bet will be to ship your car to the supporting vendor and have them build and install both the engine and turbo set up.

Have your check book, credit card and divorce papers ready.

There's absolutely no reason to build internals for a basic turbo setup. Spend money on quality supporting mods; injectors, fuel pump, ecu, cooling, proper tuning. The best built motor in the world is going to be a big pile of metal for the scrap yard if you don't do the rest correctly.
