Engine compression and how it affects power
 

I'm fairly new here, I'm in the process of building a 1.9 engine for boost and I thought I saw that the stock compression for the 1.8 engines was 9.5:1 which is what I decided to buy and install in my engine, after doing some researching, I found that the stock compression is actually 9:1 (I know rookie mistake), so my question is how bad will this be when it comes to tuning on turbo I've acquired the kraken turbo kit with his gtx 2860r size turbo if that helps. We have 93 octane here in the south florida area and if needed I could add some octane booster at every fill up, I'm not really trying to go through the problem of using e85. So my question is, how much power can I run before I am knock limited on 93 octane, is it so bad that I should just disassemble and change to 9:1 which would be a huge step back as well as another month or two for the engine to be ready. Or should I go with it. Any input is appreciated and this is my first post here so sorry for any mistake :)

Well, where do I start.
What is your power goal? You can make more power with a lower compression engine (even lower than 9:1) on pump gas, that's a fact.
I would say with a turbo of this size, you should be able to run ~270whp without going to the absolute limit.

You can solve all your "problems" by going E85. What are your concerns regarding E85? Could start issues? Not enough gas stations?

Well I've only ever really seen 1 e85 gas station near me and I'm not interested in only being able to fuel up at one place the goal was to make somewhere around the 300 who mark while keeping good spool times, I'm not going for a drag car more of a quick spooling track car

You can do nicely with Florida 93 octane depending on goals? Street, dyno queen, drift, drag, roadcourse ext. all require different build goals.

FYI keeping cool at Sebring is a whole different animal than a street queen.

The high alcohol blends are not available here and have a ton of problems in wet climates anyway.

Most going full forged will go 8.5 to 9.5. You can make more max power with 8.5 if your really pushing it but you have more response with the higher compression just have to be more careful.

Never liked using additives to try and make up for crappy gas.

Watch your timing tables to prevent knock but can make nice HP.

The car will mostly be a street car with the occasional autox in which case I could find 100 octane in one gas station 40 mins away, the idea isn't to make crazy amounts of power but to have a good response car with about 270 hp on a gtx 2860r I did get a coolant reroute and will be getting an aluminum rad with fans (any suggestions are appreciated was kind of thinking the mishimoto set) the intercooler is also nice and I will be adding a kinda ghetto thing where I usethe windshield wiper bottle to spray the intercooler with water on the outside for cooling it quickly. That's the plan at least^ if anything seems wrong about it I can definetly appreciate the criticism

how about instead of ghetto rigging it, you properly rig it and instead inject water into the turbo
