engine swap question

god i am going to get flamed for this but i searched. believe me .

but i have a friend who has a mazda protege that is a 99. and it was rear ended. the engine we pulled is a 1.6l

the engine looks identical to my 1.6 miata engine besides intake and oil pan and the little stuff and what not.

but my question is this. if i were to take all my 1.6 miata junk and bolt it to that engine would it run in my miata without modification.

because i have a 1.8l in garage but it needs rebuilt. this motor only has 90k on it and my 1.6 is at 190k and burning oil a lot.

sorry for the noob question i could not find anything on a newer 1.6l and do not have a clue if it would work .

If you have a 1.8L why not use that? Rebuild it, have more displacement, profit. Just my .02
(sorry if its not much help)

have a look at this article on m.net

Escort GT 1.8 L in a 91 Miata

the 1.8 i have is from an escort and i have read that article so many times. and i plan on rebuilding my 1.8 but i have to get all the parts intake oil pan. and exhaust i just figured i could swap this motor out in a weekend

and build the 1.8 slowly but my question was if there were any changes made to the 1.6 being that it is out of a 99 that seems newer to me. and why wouldnt it just have the 1.8

Maybe look up the specific car model on wiki ( maybe a better site) and see exactly what engine it is and then look up that engine model on wiki as that usually has the modifications and evolutions of engines, that might help :)

They pretty much swap over, yeah. You need stuff like the CAS, intake manifold, and probably the alternator from the Miata.

Great first post. Too bad It isn't in the "Meet and Greet" section.

Ok, it was really a lousy first post, but it still should be in the "Meet and Greet" section.

Have you tried reading any of the dozens of threads about engine interchanges with the Miatas?

I think the answer will be in one of those lists. I don't think anyone will spoon feed it to you if you haven't spent the time to even look yourself. This is a very "do it yourself" forum and these guys aren't very helpful to people who are lazy. They also don't like "hit and run" posts. They know you will take their efforts, use them for your own benefit, and return nothing to the forum. It's actually quite selfish. I'm not being mean, but it's not like you aren't the fifth one this week...there have been more than that.

Good luck in your search.
