Default Escort GT q 1.8 question

Ok so i got a 1.6 in my miata currently and it is smoking bad and on its last leg. so i have a 1.8 in the garage with 90k on it and plan on swapping to the 1.8 and using it while i build the 1.6 for a later use.

But my question is this. i have the motor complete i know i need the FM swap kit. and oil pan and intake and exhaust mani etc etc. but no where does anyone mention the head...

The motor i have still has the head on it but it is a distributor and i was wanting to know if i need a miata specific head or will my cam angle sensor replace that ?

this motor is to be nothing fancy just a replacement to keep my car on the road i dd as of right now being poor and plan on college this year.

i tried searching and nothing said anything about the head. and any help is much appriciated thank you

One thing to consider.... the escort head is perfect to do a coolant re-route on since you have the outlet at the back of the head. Additionally, there's the line for the heater core as well. When a buddy did the swap, that's what he did, since it was available....

Lots of documentation on m.net as well for what you need to swap from a miata 1.8 to the escort block.

NOTE, I believe the escort crank pulley is also a v-groove for the alt, so you should be able to bolt the 1.6 alt up to it as well.

its the same basic engine configuration as in the distributor, manifolds, etc. IE fwd and awd are setup very similar.

the BG gtx actually uses the same rods as the miata/protege/escort. similar pistons, but 8.2:1 instead of 8.8:1. obviously the gtr is a whole different animal internally.
