Exhaust Camshaft '01 vs 95
I'm looking to swap my '01 VVT camshaft from the head due to a bit of scoring due to some bearing material floating through the oil. I have since rebuilt/replaced and hot-tanked anything that has oil flowing through it.
I have a spare exhaust camshaft from a '95 head. Are there any physical differences between these two camshafts? I looked online for this answer but could only find info on people putting exhaust camshafts on their non-vvt intake-side camshaft. |

Thanks Full_Tilt_Boogie. Exactly what I had asked for. I wish I knew more about cam profiles to interpret exactly what is going on by swapping these two camshafts.
Do you have any predictions on how the '95 camshaft in the '01 head will affect a boosted engine? |
Never mind. After a bit of research I see that it’s a little bit of a higher dynamic compression less top end HP cam. That can be made up with a little boost.

THe 95 cam is also a hydraulic lifter cam while the 01 is not. Don’t believe they can mix.

Can anyone confirm this?

Notice the base circle is smaller on the NA8 cam. This is a problem.
It could probably be made to work but its not worth it, once you figure out how to shim the buckets up youre not saving any money. Thats assuming there wont be other issues with the hydraulic profile on a solid lifter. |
