FIVEO EV14 injector height

I bought some used 650cc EV14 injectors which are PnP with miatas and seem to have fitment issues, namely, they seem to be too long.

With the OEM spacers, the injectors seem to be a few MM taller than OEM. Anyone else have this issue? I'm wondering whether I just torque it down and say "heh" or machine new spacers.

Pretty sure I use the same injectors and mine fit just fine. I say torque it down and go.

are you sure you cleaned the rail good and lubed the o-rings properly?

cause there's quite a bit of room for movement with the stock style system, at least 2-3mm worth if not 4-5

Fresh m-tuned rail w/ assembly lube ... nothing was binding.

Either the rail is machined wrong, the spacers are wrong (I bought them used since I lost the OEM), or the injectors are too long.

Are 1.6 and 1.8 rail spacers different? (assuming 1.8's have rail spacers).

How are you sticking it in. I found with the FICs that you need to stick them into the head first, all the way, then put the rail on them. If you try to take them all on the rail and stick it all in they wont seat right and you'll fuck up the tips of the injectors and get vac leaks. This is why 3 of my injectors needed to be filed, because I bent them and then they really wouldnt fit. It sucked finding that.

I had a similar problem with my M-Tuned rail a couple years ago. Make sure you are using the correct set of holes in the mounts, lube the shit out of the O-rings and rail (I used fresh T6) and check that the ends of the mounts are not in contact with the valve cover. As I understand it, there was some production issues at one point that caused interference.

Notice the grinding on this fuel rail?

I'll have to recheck injector fitment once I finish updating the fittings on the rail.

I have no interference issues with the rail itself. I also lubricated and installed the injectors as Leafy described (it was apparent assembly the injectors and rail as an assembly was ... not gonna happen).

The good news is my concern caused me to pull the rail, which also caused me to "better" things while it was out.

Removed two sealing points. Changed out the aluminum hardline for SS. Drilled and tapped the FPR port for 1/4NPT to -6AN swivel fitting. Removed and cleaned non-petroleum spec PTFE sealant on threads and used some proper Loctite 592.

I bought brand new EV14's from FiveO for my MSM and I'm having the same issue.

Significant heigh difference between stock and the 650cc EV14's.

Notice the height difference:

You should have ordered from Flow force.

The EV14's are longer, you need longer fuel rail bushings, like this. Flow Force includes new spacers when you buy from them...

For whatever it's worth, I was able to run without the extended spacers. Just don't crush the injectors and it will be OK-ish.

TheIglu 05-19-2016 01:11 PM

Can those spacers be ordered by themselves?

Still no response from FiveO.

TheIglu 05-19-2016 01:13 PM

Looks like those include 2.5mm extensions for the rail spacers. I wonder if I can find something else to use with the right height.

deezums 05-19-2016 01:19 PM

I machined these myself, don't know if you can order them separate anywhere.

Don't hold your breath. The horror stories from FiveO customers are plentiful if you look around online a bit. I personally won't risk a motor's health by trusting them or their products. It goes well beyond the fitment issues you're experiencing - they have a fundamental lack of knowledge regarding their own products. IDs are the best, and I would use DW or FIC in a pinch, but I won't touch FiveO products with a 10 foot pole.

Sell them and get a set of Flow Force EV14s from us. The spacers that Nigel includes were one of the things I requested that he add/change when we started selling his injectors.

The only reason I went with Five-O is because Rev recommended them.

Still waiting to hear back from them. I would hope they do the right thing and take them back for a full refund if they aren't able to make them fit. I wouldn't want to sell them to an unsuspecting Miata owner given that they just plain won't fit. I'm not that type of person.

TheIglu 05-20-2016 01:33 PM

Heard back from them, Five-O is making it right, sending me a new set of injectors that will fit correctly and taking the original set back.

18psi 05-20-2016 01:52 PM

there are several different lengths of bosch injectors. looks like they sent you the wrong ones

TheIglu 05-21-2016 10:01 AM

They are replacing them with their 630cc Black Ops injectors as recommended by their local Miata tuner.

I'm being told that there isn't enough room to use the 2.5mm spacers due to the overhanging intake.

This is getting pretty frustrating. Five-O says I can't use EV14's after they sold me a set. Now they want to replace them with a different injector. My tuner is insisting on EV14's and everyone here seems to agree.

EO2K 05-24-2016 01:24 PM

Doesn't Five-O have some sort of 30 day return policy? I saw the horror stories only after I bought mine so I returned them within the 30 day window. I just told them my plans changed and I'd be running E85 so I sourced other injectors. It cost me 15% or whatever the restocking fee was, but I decided I'd rather eat the 15% than deal with inconsistent injectors.

deezums 05-24-2016 01:28 PM

Return the shitty five-o injectors and buy flow force injectors.

Five-o has no idea what they are talking about. 2mm more injector fits perfectly fine. Lots and lots of 1.8 miata using ev14's...
