Forged pistons for daily driving
 

At the moment i have a 10th for my daily driving and the red NA sitting still to fix the engine. Soon going to install a 2560 or 2860 and i need some oversize pistons. Maybe as the NA driving again the 10th will be sold

Well i had to ask. There are indeed tons off threads like this.


But at first there is the main question.. some answers that has no relations with question itself. and then there are all the gay answers like you suck and this is total new. And so there are tons of threads with no answer.

Engine has been rebuild 1000km ago but broke down again because of some problems with a gasket at the oil pickup

But then again. That thread says it should be no problem. Others says it is not good. Wisecos are strong but needs good warm up and therefor not a good choice?

This is just my opinion and i have no scientific research to back it up. But in my mind, it doesn't matter if you drive the car 3 miles or 30 miles to work. The pistons are still going to be cold for the same amount of time, thus wearing down the same amount. Obviously speed, rpm, outside air temp, and just generally how hard you drive it all plays a factor.

I daily my car a little bit. But i'm a good 30 miles from work, plus it gets a good thrashing. I'm not one to let my engine sit and idle warming up for a long time either. High idle and enriched fuel ratio for warmup does just as much if not more damage than driving it normally until it gets to operating temperature.

If you build the engine, you should expect it not to last as long as an OEM engine. Always remember, it's just a machine.

The more you cold start a car the more wear it will have. Most of the wear happens when its below operating temp. This slightly intensifies with forged pistons depending on what alloys they use and how they thermally expand, etc.

Your question is silly cause it's totally vague.

what kind of stupid question is that? do you need forged pistons? if yes, get them. If not, don't. Nothing is "good" for daily driving that's not OEM. So by that logic don't turbo your car. Don't make it faster. Don't do anything. Go buy a bus pass.

Please re-think your question, and then either post a better one, or just look at the many threads we had regarding this topic and you'll probably find an answer either way.

My choice would be wiseco's. And most of the time on my way back home i drive around and not going directly to home

I'm putting together a DD 1.6 now, but it needs a bore past +.020" (+.5mm). Haven't found pistons of that size other than forged. I'd prefer cast on a DD. Do you have a link?

Most of the forged pistons have a +1.0mm (+.040") size (79mm).

But, yeah, might be time to toss this block.

they offer +3 which I'm guessing is +.060 and say to contact them if you need bigger.

Maybe i will look for oversize cast pistons. But i need 1.8
