found the oil leak

Noticed the car was leaving behind oil when parked and eating through oil between changes so I did a dye test. Five minutes of running the engine, there's a green trail from the front main seal to the oil pan. Good times.

If you dont have this, get it. Pulling that seal is terrible without it. With the seal puller it just pops right out.

Thanks a lot. I love this board. Are the seal seating tools worth it? I didn't use one last time... maybe I should have?

This sucks but it could have been worse. On the bright side, nothing else is leaking.

Im in the same boat, my front seal just started leaking a little bit. I have 3000 miles on my build and of course the Boundary Pump seal has started leaking. I had thought I was lucky....ugh.

Yeah I'm running an early 2016 pump from 949 with I assume BE gears. I saw the threads and I was like "lucky that wasn't me." Then it was me.

Honestly this is not too much hassle, I'm just worried I'll change the seal and it will leak again. Then again my first rebuild didn't leak for over 10 years, so maybe not.

Could be cam seals as well.

That seal puller tool is the best thing I ever bought.

As far as using an install tool, I didn't this last time and my car is leaking a quart every 500mi. Doh. Gonna put fresh seals in when I have the time. Had to do a loctite fix on it though, so getting it appart is gonna suck...

True. Can you pull the TB covers without the cam cover?

x_25 11-02-2018 02:46 PM

I have seen it done, but only on cars with no front water neck.

AlwaysBroken 11-02-2018 03:40 PM

My car has no front water neck and no belt covers and you can see the cam seals directly from the front of the engine. They aren't leaking. As long as you route stuff away from the front of the engine and properly secure hoses and wires, the belts aren't a hazard.

I've done it, by forcefully bending the plastic. Not ideal but was useful enough for diagnosing a leak.
