front transmission gasket (6 speed)

the 5-speed transmission have a gasket sandwiched beneath the front transmission plate where the front tranny seal is located. were the 6-speed transmissions 'gasketless'?

Just did a 5spd to 6spd swap on a 97... used a the gasket that came off the car the 6spd was on.

ive been looking at parts diagrams and repair manuals and all kinds of things. I'm not talking about the metal trans plate. After seeing a repair manual, it says to 'apply sealant' to the part, but no mention of a gasket for a 6-speed anywhere, so I'm going to assume it has no gasket.

The 'joint' in question is between the approx 3.5" x 6" aluminum cover which houses the front transmission seal, and the front 1/3 case assembly. It is behind (and rearward of) the release bearing and release lever. Reason I asked was because I didn't see any 'fill grooves' around the perimeter of the cover-to-case mating surface that I would normally expect to see in a liquid gasket situation.

Bumping this to the top for clarification. I bought the replacement gasket (paper type) for my 5 speed. I am under the assumption that it needs no additional sealer...? It didn't look there was any other type of sealant present when I disassembled it. I just need to find the torque specs for those cover bolts...

I put RTV on both sides of every gasket because I don't care to do the work to try it again. I've seen no problems in the last two years.

When I crack open mine yesterday to replace seal, there were no gaskets.
It was pink/redish sealant.

EIDT: lol, old arse thread...
