Default what's a good resonator?

i'm getting a spec miata exhaust at a good price for my n/a, but it has no resonator. i'd like to leave this on year round, so i'll need to weld in a resonator or pre-silencer of some type. i typically hear good tones out of flow through designs that you can see straight through. i don't know though. can you all recommend any decent pre-silencers that will take the harshness out and provide a good tone for a good price?

are you looking to completely quiet down or are you trying to retain good flow?
straight through - good flow
chambered/not straight through - best sound suppression

best compromise of both is finding a straight through one that's the biggest in length and diameter that you can fit. or get one of those glass packs which are like 3' long.

there are tons and tons of options

looking to quiet it down just a little bit, and take the harshness out of it. retaining flow is important though. i don't want to give up much just to be quieter.

i figured there were a ton of good options, i just wanted to see if someone had a specific recommendation on a good deal that i couldn't really go wrong with. i'm not in a position to experiment with this resonator and that one.

I don't have one, but I've heard good things about Vibrant Performances resonators. Drop a golf ball strait through and pretty good at taking the harsh out. I've had Magnaflow in the past and they were OK. Straight through and a large amount of internal volume will probably get what you want. The more volume it has internally the better it works, in theory. Some are better than others. $ goes a long way too. Cheap doesn't always get a desired affect.

nice. that'll probably be about as good as it gets. i realize the link i posted was a whole catback, but it just shows that vibrant is a pretty good sounding piece. looks like about $60 for a resonator.

We are having a sale on the entire vibrant line up. Great quality for the price.

PM us what size and length your looking for. They have two straight through designs.
The standard, and the ultra quite.

I prefer the long Magnaflows for both performance and sound suppression. Depending on what size the tubing in your system is, I would probably run one of these:

bumping this
my exhaust is 1 7/8 ID, reportedly 2" OD, and the smallest vibrant resonator is 2 1/4". this is a decent gap. can this be done? will i have to fabricate something? buy something? take it somewhere that can swell the ends? or get a different resonator?

Yea absolutely. Are you also still in need of the resonator.

2.25 x 12 i think. it's been a great dilemma, but i think i'll go with 12.

I’m probably going to get 3.5" (18” long) Vibrant resonator too as I’m not sure if my 3.5” exhaust will pass 95dB limit that we have here with one track. I have big oval 3” magnaflow already but I don’t think it’s going to get me under 95dB…
