Gasoline in turbo.....

My car was running peachy all of last week besides idle fluctuations, but with a sudden onset of really bad fuel economy. I installed a test pipe that same week, so I attributed the oil consumption from an off AFR reading. Tunerstudio also leaned the hell out of map that week also, even though a leak would have made the LC-1 read leaner.

So today I finally had time to recheck all the couplers etc and I noticed a white smoke from my mani/turbo area. Thinking it was just a leak from having really bad engine mounts (just ordered some while I took a break), I came back to tighten up those nuts a bit and started her up, but behold.... gurgling, wet, GASOLINE was leaking out of that area where it was once smoking.

I've been careful as my car has only been boosting the last 2 weeks or so. No coolant is leaking and there's no oil leak. What should I do next? Compression check? :crx:

Um, where exactly is gas leaking out? There should be no gas whatsoever on the exhaust side of the car...

Exhaust manifold -> Turbo. I pulled it just now, 100% positive it's gasoline. This coincided with my really bad gas mileage last week, so : (.

But isn't it impossible for gas to get over there? All the gas lines are on the passenger side of the car, and the fuel rail is on the intake manifold. There are no gas conduits on the exhaust side of the car.

There is if it's unburnt. How's it running? Check spark. What's the condition of the injectors? You sure it's not just condensation during warm up?

Do a compression test and cylinder leakage test

The car was running fine. It was only on jackstands because I was trying to find a leak somewhere. What am I looking for in terms of injectors? I got some 46ccs I was about to put in soon. I just replaced the spark wire and spark plugs less than 1k ago.

I pulled the plugs just now and 1-2 and 4 are uniformed, but 3 is fouled/wet like no tomorrow.

Your #3 injector is probably stuck on

shuiend 02-05-2010 08:16 PM

Your probably have an injector stuck open, or are just still running very rich in megasquirt. I would check your "Required Fuel Calculator" and see if that is off.

secretsquirrel 02-05-2010 08:18 PM

What did you do with the O2 sensors after you put the "test Pipe" in?

Ninja edit: Give me a break, Friday night...Tito's is in the house!

MS1...no factory ECU to be pissed off about O2 sensors, I hope..

Everything cool with orings, spacers, etc. on injectors? Nothing stuck open?

popopopop 02-05-2010 08:20 PM

I did pull the injectors last week, but put them back in with no visible leak in the fuel rail. Could it be a wiring issue, because I had to rewire the two wires back to each injector connector (don't ask). I think we got the culprit....

If everything was OK before, double check the last thing that was f*cked with...ask me how I know...

Words of wisdom: If one f*cks with 15 different things without checking things step by step, it will be 15 x 15 times as hard to troubleshoot - and it will be the g*d-d*mned the simplest thing that you should have checked first!!! - Squirrel's Law

Injector #3 was loose. I'll redo the wiring when my new injectors get here. Was I too rough when screwing around with the injectors, or can a wiring problem cause it to be stuck open? Pray it will be alright.....thanks all!

curly 02-05-2010 08:45 PM

Miatas apparently hate #3 injectors.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if said retarded wiring job had an injector line held low as in grounded, instead of switched ground, it could hold the injector open resulting in a "stuck open" event...or I'm the 'tard. Oh, we aren't supposed to use the Rohm Emmanuel term "retarded" - perhaps electronically challenged? Or in my case, vodkically challenged?

popopopop 02-05-2010 08:56 PM

^Someone answer this man and explain it in layman's term.

secretsquirrel 02-05-2010 09:01 PM

I'll shut up now, before someone e-thugs me...

Ok, how's this for a laymans' answer:

Yes.

Sparetire 02-06-2010 03:18 PM

The real question is if this had any negative impact on the #3 rings. Probably not, but I would do a comp test and see.
