Has anybody run these lifters?
 

I have to rebuild my motor and when it was running, it never ever ever ever ever, stopped ticking thanks to the lifters, These solid lifters, which are shim under bucket, supposedly fit in the little 1.6. And before somebody roasts me for building a 1.6, I'd just like to point out that multiple people have built 1.6's.

You will have to buy allot of shims, and it is more work to change them when you are setting up the car. If you are building a high RPM engine then run shim under bucket. If you just have ticking why not just get new hydraulic lifters?

I've tried new lifters and it still didn't get rid of the ticking. Maybe it was low oil pressure but I put a new oil pump in and used rotella t6 and lucas oil and that still didn't work

If you're disassembling the head, just crack open the lifters and clean out the ancient tar pit oil. If you aren't tearing the head apart, just run the motor with one quart of oil replaced with one quart of ATF for about 10 minutes right before you do an oil change. Probably not something to do while breaking in an engine though.

would it be wise to fill the lifters with lucas oil or the regular 10w-30 full synthetic. What would you recommend?

So the lifters are ticking on a fresh rebuild?

Did you replace the lifters? (or at the very least, clean them out)
Did you prime the lifters before putting them into the head?
Did you prime the oil pump before starting the car?



If you haven't done the rebuild yet, and aren't planning on using cams with a solid lifter profile, then just buy new HLAs.
And just use some oil flush (or ATF, or Diesel) every couple of oil changes to flush the shit out of them.

If you've cleaned out the lifters and they need to be filled again, just use the same oil that you'll be using in the engine.

Fill a small container with the oil
drop the lifters in so they're submerged.
leave it for a few hours until there's no air bubbles coming out.

If you want to speed it up, while the lifters are submerged just pump each one in and out a few times to suck the oil in faster.

It would be crazy to go to SUBs just for some ticking lifters... nuts!

unless you’re spinning sky high RPMs and /or have big cams, don’t waste your time and money

Priming lifters by soaking and plunging as described above is the correct way, and is easy. Collapsed lifters don't always pump up by themselves in a running engine.
