has anyone tried a precision 5557sp turbo?

Just wanted to see if anyone has tried this turbo in comparison to a gt3071r. I am currently running the gt3071r and am looking to upgrade. I am interested in this turbo due to it's higher hp rating and have heard it spools as fast or faster. Also wondering if it would fit an absurdflow low mount v band manifold.

There is a guy running a Precision 5252 with pretty good results.

jtothawhat 10-24-2010 05:46 PM

I think Eliminator from m.net w/600 whp mentioned running that turbo, I am not sure if he ever went that route or not. I have the big brother of that turbo and I love it, it's very efficient, billet wheels ftw.

Aricjm15 10-24-2010 05:48 PM

Ha I got it wrong yeah, 5857.

rileyg 10-24-2010 06:06 PM

thanks for the feedback. hopefully I can get a response from turbo tim as to wether it will fit one of his manifolds.

It's a T3 platform...you need to research more!

Note that Garrett is releasing a GTX30 and a GTX35. You may want to look into that vs. the PT turbos. The garrett gtx series has billet wheels.

Also, tell us some about your build. I have a GT3071 as well. .86 trim

car has built engine 84.5mm bore. wiseco pistons, carillo rods, 99 head with 1mm oversize supertech valves, supertech valve springs and retainers.old style begi turbo manifold customized to fit t3 and adapted to fit a tial 44mm ewg. custom 3" downpipe. begi cast intake manifold with mustang 70mm tb. precision large front mount with custom 2.5" plumbing. 50mm tial bov. m-tuned coolant reroute. precision gt3071r with e compressor housing and .63 a/r turbine housing. aem ems. 1000cc injector dynamics injectors. stock coils with magnacore wires and denso iridium plugs. there's probably something i'm leaving out.

oh yeah just put on an ati damper. clutch is act extreme pressure plate and clutch master 4 puck sprung hub disc. just got everything back together after rebuilding. still breaking in the new engine. hope to have dyno results soon. looking for 450 or more on pump gas. was making 392 on pump with blown head gasket and 80 psi compression on cyl 2&3.

Our builds sound fairly similar. What psi got you to 392hp?

jtothawhat 10-27-2010 01:25 AM

Pics???? A lot of people are having great success with PTE turbos, so I recommend them.

They do offer vband housings, but likely differ from tial flange.
Just weld a new flange on, its not hard.

those numbers were on my old set up which was a ported 94 head with stock valves. It was running about 26-27psi. Should have some new numbers soon. I'll try and get some pics on here. anything in you want some detailed pictures of?

I'm running a precision sc6062 billet wheel. Spool up is decent and flows 60lbs+/min, i think you'll be fine.

Details on your setup? Build? How much hp at what psi?

1.8 fwd bp in an mx-3. Stock, cryo treated internals, megasquirt, full race ramhorn, 3in exhaust etc. Haven't dyno'd it yet because i'm waiting on bigger injectors, but i maxed out my 550 cc injectors at 14lbs, so probably low 300's. According to datalogs i'm @ 10lbs around 4500 rpm.

Spool isn't that bad. I wonder how the flow compares to a GT35.

Too bad precision doesn't publish compressor maps.

I am writting to this thread because i find a precision 6162 to very low price. Is a good update from 3071 or do you thing that is huge ?
I use the car only for drag races.

18psi 04-12-2011 10:48 AM

No such thing as too big if you're drag racing:)

TurboTim 04-12-2011 11:32 AM

And to the OP, I don't know if it fits an absurdflow manifold.
