So, would the JR header be around the same gain as well?
Ever since I found out that JR has a CARB EO for their new Rotrex kit, Ive been thinking about that header. |

Since you're new here, I'll be nice. Bottom line seems to be to buy the RB header... (That's me, paraphrasing about a year worth of header threads/etc/along with SEARCH RESULTS since owning a Miata.) While the JR is CARB legal, pretty sure I wouldn't want to dirty my hands to install one. And, ya know... try searching ;) |

No one post by one person. My personal experience is that we have tried all sort of stuff on the exhaust side and found that a OTS Racing Beat header, race pipe (test pipe), midpipe and single tip exhaust flow about as much as a $2500 hand built bundle of snakes work of art header/exhaust. For fun, we tried a straight pipe. Yep, made less power than the OTS RB exhaust. While a one off Stahl or Boig big tube header for a 9000rpm 14:1 EP motor that idles at 2000rpm will likely be more effective that the OTS RB system on that example, everything else we have tried has come up with no real gains. This from a bone stock 102whp NA8 to a 400whp supercharged car and most points in between.

Emilio,
Did you do any testing without the venturi fitted in the Maruha? It seems to work well on a stock engine, but I wonder if it chokes things up on a more modified engine with compression, cams, ITB's, etc. I was going to pull mine out and maybe re-dyno. Curious as to what your thoughts are. |

How small does the choke get again? IIRC pipemax was saying 2" choke was good for a header on stock cams aiming for a 4k to 8k powerband.

Your car looks like it has more power in it if you just increase the redline. But I would need more specs on the cams if you wanted me to pipe max it.
|
The Maruha has optional venturi inserts 45, 50 and 55mm. The BP header ships with 50mm standard.

I do not know yet. We are just beginning to experiment with venturis our selves.

The venturi is supposed to increase scavenging and reduce the losses of the flex pipe.

supposedly. but don't the results of this test say otherwise?

Separately, we already know properly designed and implemented venturis have proven to work in other engines for decades. Good venturis are not cheap to make. My conclusion is that the RB might benefit by adding a venturi. So that's what we're trying next. |
^^^ If you guys can come up with a venturi system that adds a proven 5 whp and 5 ft-lbs of torque to the Racing Beat header that would be freaking awesome.
You all can then turn around and sell that RB header for $600 instead of $439. I would be willing to pay the extra $$$, go for it. |
I'm not sure what 949's plan is exactly for this setup. But my way of doing it would involve cutting the primaries off where they enter the stock collector then welding in a new collector with a proper merge and megaphone. Material alone would increase the cost of the header by about $350.

That would be one (erroneous) conclusion. Two different header designs so not A/B test. The safe conclusion would be that RB's 4:1 config, pipe diameters and primary length are perhaps a better combo that the Maruha/Maxim/Fujitsubo et.al. All of the EP headers I've seen are 4:1.

Speaking of ceramic coatings... where is everyone sending their headers to these days?
