Heater core bypass with coolant reroute and turbo

I currently have my heater core by-passed and a coolant reroute installed. I would love to completely remove the heater core lines and weld up the hole from the mixer and rear thermostat.

Has anyone done this? how does this affect cooling? how will it affect cold weather starts and coolant pressure/flow at cold starts? I would love to learn the science behind it

Thanks!

No real science. It just eliminates a mini radiator that you may or may not use. Geographic location pending.

Isn’t that the only route for coolant when the thermostat is closed? Seems like it would be hard on the water pump to close that passage completely.

Yep.

I blocked mine off when I installed my coolant reroute but also drilled some holes in the thermostat so that the system doesn't come to a complete halt when thermostat is closed.

If there is no flow past the thermostat then the thermostat doesn't know how hot your engine is, and pretty much doesn't work at all.
