I just bought a second motor to do a budget build on. Ebay rods, bearings, rings, seals are all I'm planning to do. I may go for 1994 BP pistons to lower the compression, but not too sure if it's worth doing.

n00b build thread to follow.

He needs to leave the confines of the Miata scene for awhile. He'll soon realize most stock bottom ends can handle 400+ hp. Buddy just built a turbo kit on a TC that made over 450fwhp on the stock guts. Impressed I was.

Just to add on to the "Stock bottom end is impressive" pile, I have a stock bottom end 94 running a t3/t4 hybrid (sometimes referred to as a Super 60), at 25 psi. Bottom has 133k miles too. All I did at the bottom is add the MBSP from a new motor.
I have a lot of head work (may be worthless since I did it myself), coolant reroute and BEGI cast manifold with external dual port waste gate, 3 inch exhaust from turbo back and a pretty large IC. Oh and AEM EMS.
No dyno, just haven't gotten around to that yet.

Come up to the dyno day on Oct 15 at York Automotive. It is $50 for a few pulls.

Some of us want a 400whp street car. Some of us want a 300whp track car. Both require built motors.

Just because you need to build a motor doesn't mean you need to max it out.

I've been extra vocal because of the "300hp is faster than god" mentality. For all the shit this site gives m.net it's pretty darn similar in some ways.

I think that is a good idea.
