How to remove thermo goosneck - advice please.
 

Hi Guys, I have refitted my M-tuned reroute to the race motor and really want to tidy up the front of the engine by removing the gooseneck.

I am comfortable with everything but removing the cam gears to get at the panel that hides the gooseneck bolts.

I have tried a google search but mostly the posts revolve around changing cams completely or "thinking" about removing the goosneck....

Can anyone point out a thread or perhaps some advice.....?

Removing the gooseneck is an appearance mod. Either bolt a block off plate onto the end of the gooseneck, or else remove the cam gears. :dealwithit:

Just remove the cam gears. Stick the FM key between the gears, zip tie the belt to the gears, use the wrench flats on the cam and zip the bolts out. Its not rocket science.

What I would do:

Put the car in gear and break 14mm bolts on the cam gears loose.
Break the 10mm bolts on the water pump pulley loose.
Remove the alternator/water pump belt and the pulley on the water pump
Remove the spring behind the water pump pulley
Loosen the 14mm bolt on the timing belt tensioner
Remove timing belt from cam gears and remove the cam gears
Remove the 10mm bolts on the timing plate thing
At that point you'll have access to the gooseneck and can attack it however you want, reinstall in the opposite order and reset your timing.

Personally, I like the look of the motor without the timing plate thing on there. I cut mine so it left the timing marks and bolt holes but could be added/removed with the timing gears in place. I bolt everything up, set the timing, then remove the plate.
