How should I plumb my fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail, etc.?

I swear to god I searched and had no luck...

I have the following parts:

This fuel pressure regulator: FUELAB 525 Series In-Line Fuel Pressure Regulator - MiataRoadster - High-performance customer service...and parts for Roadsters

This fuel rail:
Dual Feed Fuel rail Miata 1.6

This hose kit:
Hose kit for M-Tuned fuel rail

I can't figure out how to plumb it all. I understand that there are a few options and whatnot but all of the diagrams I can find reflect the factor fuel pressure regulator being used and I have the external regulator. What do I do with the port on the top of the rail?

Again, I searched but I couldn't find anything and this part is not intuitive to me. Any help would be appreciated.

You're going to want an adapter fitting for the port on the top of the rail. You'll run feed into both ends of the rail, then from the port on top (that you've now put an adapter on) you'll run to the Fuelab FPR, then return.

I see. Thank you.

Another newb question... Is this adapter specific to this particular fuel rail or is such a part readily available in generic form from any speed shop?

Mr.E.G. 08-12-2013 04:06 PM

When I spoke to Emelio at 949 he basically said that when I got the parts that it would be obvious how I should hook it up. He clearly underestimated ignorant I am on the topic. LOL.

Concealer404, I assume this is the type of part you were referring to?

1989-1997 Miata 1.6L/1.8L Fuel Rail Pressure Regulator Adapter [SM-AFPR-1001034] - $24.99 : Apex King Performance Products, Delivering Speed in Every Form!

concealer404 08-12-2013 04:48 PM

Yep. Same thing is probably all over Ebay for $10 but that's it.

I know on the 1.8 version of that fuel rail the spot for the regulator is threaded. I put a 1/4NPT plug in it and I fed the rail from the front with a 3/8NPT to -6AN and had the back of the rail go to my FPR.

Mr.E.G. 08-12-2013 06:14 PM

Thanks, leafy. I'll check to see if mine is tapped or perhaps I'll tap it myself.

Mr.E.G. 08-12-2013 11:08 PM

Ok, so I checked it out and my fuel rail is not tapped. I'm really anxious to get this wrapped up sooner rather than later, so I'm inclined to tap it myself. However, I'm a little worried I'll screw up the finish on the rail so maybe I should just be patient and order the adapter.

I'm a little annoyed that I explained my setup to two vendors (whom I bought several fuel-related parts from to complete this project) and none of them mentioned the adapter needed to do away with the factory fuel pressure regulator.

Also, am I supposed to use Teflon tape on the various fuel fittings?

concealer404 08-12-2013 11:17 PM

I may have a spare adapter... looks like the same ones I use on KLs and F2s.

Where are you located?

The yellow teflon tape that is rated for gas contact is what I use.

Where are you located?

I'm in North Dallas. Are you in the Metroplex? And thanks for the offer.

I have a dual feed rail and I have it plumbed like a normal rail.

Fuel goes in on one end, comes out on the other, goes to FPR, returns to tank. No y-fittings or anything. The hole in the middle of the rail is plugged.

etikoner 08-20-2013 06:58 PM

Where do I find a damn 99 head/95 chassis compatible fuel rail?

Mr.E.G. 08-20-2013 07:09 PM

If it was in your butt you'd know where it was.

Man, I've been waiting for years for the opportunity to say that. It feels... Well, it's everything I expected it to be.

etikoner 08-20-2013 07:13 PM

lol..

But serious, 949 only has a 1.6
tse doesn't even carry the mtuned fuel rail

I've tried nothing and I'm all outta ideas.

This is what I ended up doing. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hahahaha. That cracked me up.

Mr.E.G. 08-20-2013 07:15 PM

In what way is the 99 head style fuel rail different than the 1.6 rail?
