idle air control hose

...hopefully this isn't a silly question -

On my 94 miata I'm running a JR45 with the throttlebody in the stock location - this requires a bov in the crosspipe. running IAT and deleted MAF.

I'm trying to cleanup the engine bay - tuck some wires, delete some things... i got this big ol' 3/4 inch hose running across my bay from the idle air hole on the tb, over to a spot on the intake just after the filter and before the charger inlet.

i'm not very much of a mechanic, but using common sense it kinda tells me this hose goes to uncharged, basically "open air" ... leads me to think:

can't i just delete this and put a small air filter on the idle air valve?

thanks for the learning opportunity :)

Do you still have a MAF?

imperfekt 06-05-2013 08:37 AM

No maf :/

Then theoretically you can do it. Though no maf means you're running a stand alone. IMO it would be cleaner and better to replace your TB that has the iac on it with an NB unit that has the self contained iac.

Cool, and thanks for the suggestion! Wonder if I'd have to change any settings on my ms3x... Seems like I would just recalibrate the throttle position with tunerstudio...?

If you use that TB for throttle position then you'd need to switch to the NB tps and tps connector, you'd also need to switch the connector on your harness to the NB iac one. Both connectors can be found if you look in the connector witch hunt thread. And you'll need to also change the IAC frequency in the ECU too to the NB value.

If the IACV is open at all in boost, that's a boost leak.

ohh :S hmmm...

i mean, it runs to a point before the charger (even if i had followed the conventional installation of using the dummy tb in the stock location and the real tb on the charger inlet...)

i'm confused. lol (happens easily)

cleanest solution in my opinion: NB tb
would be easy peasy to set up on the MS3x as well

imperfekt 06-06-2013 02:20 PM

hmmms, i'll have to look into one of them - does sound like the way to go...

Does the NB throttle body fit on the NA intake manifold? I honestly have never tried.
