Default I'm new I don't know what to do. 1.8?

So, I'm at 218k on my 1.6L. I want opinions/thoughts. Should I swap to the 1.8?

I have a completely stock 1.6 with hella miles. I have had people tell me to just turbo the current one 1.6l and I have had people say to order a new 1.6 first. Iam now getting pushed toward a 1.8 swap. But do not know if the gain is worth it or not. Or if I should just run the current engine to the ground.

Do a compression and leakdown test, tell us the results. It will be then that we will give you our genuine opinion.

OP, your question is very vague. What do you want to do with the car? Answer thirdgens question too.

it sounds like you just want to freshen up the motor because you dont think this motor is gonna last long. What I would do is look for a deal on a 1.8 and get the fm install kit and then do what maintenance to the 1.8 while the 1.6 is still in and running. Then you can eventually boost the 1.8 in the future if thats something you want to do down the road. Is that a viable option?

That is very good advice. Do what this guy said too.

218,000K = 135,000 miles btw, so the mileage isn't too high.

I wanna be boosted yes. Would be nice and it's not that I think the motor won't last because it had been very well taken care of. I have all paper work all mantinence has been done at dealer for the most part. Runs great. Will do the compression test and post when i do. Shearhead: why do u say 218 = 135?

Lol... look at his units, you missed the most important part of this sentence. 218,000 kilometers = 135,000 miles. Or did you mean 218,000 miles? There are 2 different assumptions happening, and you weren't descriptive enough in your original post. My guess is he thought your statement of 218k meant kilometers.

So why are you wanting to rebuild the motor if its still good compression? If youre going to go boosted you will see far better results with the 1.8. If you have good compression across the board go ahead and build you a 1.8 and go have fun doin some roll races and surprise some stuff but if you want to track the car dont spend the money on boost until you have a feel for it. These are things I have learned from this site.

Just make sure you use a torch to cut the shocks.

Do what I'm doing. Sure, you could buy a fun daily for $30k, but I decided to do a VVT/6-speed-3.63/MS2 swap on my daily. It beats the ---- out of driving an appliance.
