individual throttle bodies
are the fuji racing itb's quality and how much power would i gain from them?
|
they are well made.
the gains are very slight. the general consensus here (remember, this is miataTURBO.net) is that ITB's are absolutely not worth the money, when you can go force induction for about the same money and make significantly more power. |
Though probably not worth it, I have to say if I already had a forced induction Miata, I would still like to have a high compression n/a build with itb's.

the sound of an ITB setup is incredible, but without a serious engine build you are not likely to see huge gains from running that type of setup. HP/$ boost is the way to go unless you count the baby bottle as being a viable horsepower option.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that Fuji was working on a plenum to use their setup with FI. I just checked their site though, and didn't see anything. I can't find that thread now. Maybe I'm wrong.

you can still use ITB's with your FI setup, just custom make a plenum

Dude, thats pretty awsome! Great fab work. Looks like a pretty sound design.

Mazda/Nissan, very cool site. I haven't seen that yet.
Would an ITB setup w/ long velocity stacks help with spool w/ a large turbo? I have a GSXR 750 setup that I've gotten fairly far on but shelved it last spring to focus on the turbo install. I may install it in a few years when I move out of California is there is any benefit to be had. Attachment 209832 I've fabbed a different throttle linkage since then. |

lol true that braineack
maybe he switched to side feed? |
Aww damn, good looking out, I didnt see that before.
Would there be any problem with venting fuel since the bov is only inches from the injectors? |
why run ITB's when you can just turn up the boost 1psi? lol

I could see them being useful if you want to make a so-called 'responsive' car. But that would need to hit the extremes and probably still not be all that great.
Something like 4.3 rear, lightweight flywheel and clutch combo, small wheels etc... To answer the OP though I don't think Fuji's ITB's are worth it. You could build something like that yourself without too much issue. Basically you're talking about mating an ITB from something else to a properly sized manifold or just flange even and bolting it on. Modifications to the ITB would be for a throttle linkage, injectors and vacuum source. GSXR-750 throttle bodies are 46mm I believe and only 2" long which would flow plenty. I forget whether it was Fuji or Maruha but I remember they had to some pretty extensive modifications to get to 170hp. Custom ECU, injectors, heightened compression to 11:1 with domed pistons and headwork. You'd really need to want that as a gimmick. That said I might be able to make one myself for about $300 in parts minus ECU so it becomes a "Why not?" kind of thing. |
FujiRacing's car has every mod in the book to get it to 170rwhp at 8K
