Injector Issue
 

A while back I had sent my injectors to Injector-Rehab to get cleaned. The results were good, showed that before the cleaning, the static flow between the injectors were not even (550, 542, 540, 546 from 1 to 4), and that after the cleaning the static flow was 550 on all 4, the 15 sec @ 2.25 bar (32.6 psi) flow test was 137.5 on all 4, and the cc/min @2.25 bar test was 550 on all 4.

Then, after the rod bent on the engine, I suspected that there was an issue on injector 1 since that was were the overage of fuel was. So I sent them off to WitchHunter to get tested only just so that a different company was doing the testing in an unbiased manner.

Their results show that there was nothing wrong with injector 1, but here's where the problem comes. Their results show that inj. 2 has a poor spray pattern, the static flow is at 183, 177, 182.5, and 183 from 1 to 4. Pulsed flow (cc) @ 2500rpm is 98, 93, 99, and 98. The cc/min @ 43.5 psi test shows 549, 531, 547.5, and 549.

So who's information do I believe? And more importantly, is this a big enough issue or difference to be concerned with, or will I be ok running them as is?

If you filled a cylinder with fuel then you probably stuck an injector. If you are on a new motor, I'd get new injectors myself. Dunno whose numbers to trust. IMO, they just need to be close. I mean, you are gonna tune it rich anyways, so if it runs 12.1 on three cylinders and 12.24 on the other one that runs leaner, it won't matter.

Well, I don't know if that was what caused the engine issue, there was no fuel residue in the cylinder, but there was on the spark plug, so it's an unsolved mystery. And I honestly can't justify spending ~$350+ on a new set of injectors when there should be nothing wrong with these, especially after disassembly and cleaning, if you know what I mean.
I know that the closer the better, I just don't want to have any problems from running these if they are as WitchHunter says they are.
I think I may try contacting Injector-Rehab and providing the result information and see if they will look at them again. A lot of people seem to really like them for servicing, so I'd hope they are doing good work.

Hmm, looks like the rock/hardplace scenario. I say contact sexy nurse and see what they say.

Sexy Nurse says they'll look at the injectors for me free of charge and video the process too (I hope they sneak in a clip of the nurse and maid too. lol). Then they'll correct any issues they find. I'm impressed. However, it was hinted that even though I installed them immediately, their lack of use for some time may have compromised the flow quality in that one injector. So definitely feeling better about the situation now. :)

So what ever happened with the injectors? I don't buy that sitting caused the problem. They should have serviced them in such a way that sitting for a while wouldn't hurt them, IE, sealed in a vacuumed bag or something.

Well, Injector Rehab has them right now, waiting on my word as to when I'm ready to have them serviced again so that they will be installed immediately after. They serviced them properly the first time, but they were left sitting (in ziploc bags) after the rod bent before they went to WitchHunter. But this is off of their FAQ page:

We'll see what the second test through IR reveals. I'm not sure what to believe about it honestly, but I don't think they'll give me false reports as to the condition of the injector. I hope not anyway.

And yeah, I'm not clicking those links either!

Any updates on this so far?

Nope, still slowly acquiring parts (and money) to take everything to the machine shop and get put together. As soon as I'm close to being ready, I'll call Injector Rehab and have them reservice the injectors. As it is, they are just holding onto them for right now.
