Cams, tune, make the ****** breathe, then spin it high enough to make a 6spd/4.3 combo work, right?

yeah pretty much. Probably will only rev it to 8000 or 8200, but that should be perfectly matched with a 6 speed and 4.3. Right now I'm only revving it to 7600 and I'm using a 5 speed, but with 8000+ rpm I think that gearing will be a bit too long.

I am seriously considering one of these for a project next winter but want to see more people beat on them first. Hopefully you find several people who are willing to take the plunge.

Also, dressed k24 w/o transmission vs BP in the same trim looks like about 75lb? That's a nice little bonus. Pulling weight off of the front of an NA usually involves giving up things like headlights.
Edit: Did you get the car corner weighted again after the swap and do you have the numbers?

Read through this and the k forum thread, I find this interesting. Have you been able to come up with pricing for the full kit?

ha, thank you. My 5 speed trans is handling the K24 abuse just fine.

Almost ready to launch a website with pricing, thanks for your patience everyone. Looking forward to helping others with this swap in 2014.

As someone who browses this forum only occasionally, I immediately associated your comment with you bitching about why the F-series is a better motor. Take that for what it's worth.

If someone wants to start a new thread documenting all the work he has done to develop a different swap idea; I for one would love to read it and decide which option is right for me.

Even a one time mention that a different engine is better isn't a bad thing; but bringing it up throughout an 18 page thread many of us are interested in seems a wrong way to go. I appreciate some of the posts are meant to be humorous; but when you are looking for information on a project that you're interested in; all the "humorous" jabs get old.

Nobody cares about expensive *** F-series engines. This thread is about junkyard longblocks available for cheap that will bolt up to junkyard transmissions available for cheap, and can be flogged relentlessly on the track in a cheap and capable chassis.

I'll lighten up when you stop soapboxing like a petulant child who isn't being paid enough attention to. Four posters in a row just told you to shut your stupid yap about the F-series. Maybe you should take a hint.

this post is right on!

also for those curious about the new weight of the chassis, i thought this was worth a re-post from the original thread:

Stock 2000 NB is rated at 2330 lbs from the factory. I have added an OEM hard top and a 1.75" roll bar with two diagonals, which are probably 45 lbs each. Otherwise the car is completely full interior with zero attempt to reduce weight, except air bags are removed.

I weighed the car last year with the stock motor and it was 2425 with about a half tank and a race seat.

When I weighed the car with the K24, it came in at 2299, and the weight distribution is exactly 50/50. Car still even has spare tire, and a half tank. Changes include:
-no A/C
-no P/S
- bigger (heavier) brakes
- stainless 2.25" exhaust instead of OEM

So I think it's safe to say that this setup is 100+ lbs lighter if you remove a/c and p/s. The K24 has to be about 60-70 lbs lighter than the stock iron block. And there you have it - making big power and doing weight reduction in the process!

I have taken accurate weights for NA parts but not NB.
http://gyazo.com/56c75b99091e4ce1a8fb7fca7c514b65.png

The AC and power steering parts should weigh the same for NA and NB. Assuming you still have evaporator under the dash the AC+power steering removal is 40lbs. That leaves an 86lb differential for the brakes, exhaust, and engine swap.

It would be cool to nail down a more specific number. Some big brake kits are lighter than stock and the exhaust could be a sizable chunk of that 86lb depending on what exactly came off and went in (a metal core cat and lightweight muffler would be a big difference from OEM). Sounds to me like it is between 30-60lb lighter after everything is taken into account.

Oh yeah. I remember reading somewhere that the V8R tubular measured like 7lbs lighter and not 10lbs. Going from a 1.8l making 100ish whp to a 2.4l making over 200 at the wheels and saving any amount of weight in the engine is pretty awesome.

Edit:
I check this thread almost every day and am looking forward to when you get the website with pricing information online. I think like other people I am weighing this against building a vvt motor.

Couple more specifics. I did remove the evaporator since the dash comes out for the wiring.

I said the brakes are heavier because they are heavier - I just added the K Tuned/M Tuned brake kit that uses brackets to space out the factory calipers to fit the bigger 11" rotors. Probably only a few lbs but its worth mentioning.

Current exhaust has a cat, but muffler is a bit smaller, but overall pretty heavy. I'd imagine no more than 10 lbs weight saving from the exhaust, and little more when factoring in the header.

Either way, its lighter, which makes me happy considering its a monster 2.4L engine.
