No not yet. Out of time. Been wifed. Did you also check the keyway on the crank when you checked timing? I would now remove my timing belt and the pulley and check my keyway why? To verify the crank has not spun inside the pulley? That makes no sense to me ... if that were the case, the car would not run at all. |
Came here to say dislodged cat core.
This sounds eerily similar to the issue I had on several occasions. Eliminate all the aftermarket parts and see if she runs. I could go from Rotrex + DIYPNP to OEM in about 2 hours. Obviously this does not include injectors but that's not that much of a challenge. My money is something with the Xede. Who built the harness? |

I just caught this. If the cat exploded in the pipe, it could expain most (all?) of these symptoms. Avoid the temptation to throw new parts at the problem. Is the no name E0 gas a place you have gone in the past?

You know it's interesting, I started thinking about the cat about the time Gordon posted his question above. I like the cat theory. I have not had a chance to test it - the front of the engine is still nekkid down to the timing belt and I went to the track today to visit the local crew. I was supposed to drive today but got my registration applied to the next one in June. Took a ride with Curly and tried to help correct his horribly deficient driving skills, and I let him use my 205 Rivals for a couple of sessions since I'm just that swell of guy. Besides, tracking a boosted miata on all-seasons is just wrong.
Regarding the fuel supply place - I have been using their E0 92 almost exclusively for over 2 years. Tomorrow I have to do domestic chores with Ms Mobius (maybe Bed Bath & Beyond if there's time!!) so won't have a chance to put it together, take the exhaust off, and run it racekar style until Wed. morning. Edit: my WOT throttle tune has been too rich for a long time, more weight for the cat theory. |
I was thinking catalytic converter as well. I had disintegrate on my once and it caused me to hunt problems for months. If the cat has come apart, check your exhaust as well to make sure no chunks lodged in the muffler or piping.

Ahem, the tires were fine, I just couldn't warm them up with a battery flying around the trunk. It's a shame you left for session two where I actually got them warmed and cut a few seconds off my 1:40 time. Although I'm sure session 3 and 4 with the Rival's cut around 2 seconds off the neo gens.
Back to the clogged cat. Why are you waiting to put the engine back together? It's a visual check, shine a flashlight in through the back, and if you can't see it, it's kaput. |

Edit: Because the front of the engine is apart, and I took it apart in a hurry. Normally I bag&tag everything because normally there might be a span of multiple weeks between disassembly and reassembly. Sunday evening I just took it apart in a hurry. I don't want to lose track of anything. And I want to be able to start the engine once I do the visual inspection of the cat, verify that it really does respond to throttle input like it's supposed to, and order my O2 sensor mini-cat. The valve cover and plastic shields are back on, still have to remount the supercharger, connect the harness, tighten the pulleys and put the belts on. I have these children, see. They are liable to come through the garage and accidentally knock over that tray of screws&bolts or whatever. I just don't like leaving one part in a chaotic mess if I don't have to, and there's no pressure any more to be super fast. |

Today's update.
Few things in life can be stated with absolute certainty. One of these things is the chance that my cat can offer any backpressure whatsoever to exhaust gasses. I have, shall we say, vastly improved the airflow properties of my cat, but the car still has issues. It's hunting in closed loop idle, and can still bog when blipping the throttle. Out of time for today. Tomorrow: fuel pressure test, possibly leakdown test. And more hunting for a vac leak I might have missed somehow. |

Cats not clogged, timing looks decent, maf is bolted to the throttle body. No idea what's wrong. Acting like its expecting 550 injectors and it only has 250s.

ECU seems to be the only thing left.
I wonder if there is anyone out there with a Xede you can borrow for a test. |
